Whats the point of asking loads of questions to the member, then locking the thread so that they can not reply...?

I swear someone is on a wind up...

Westy, I assume you mean the spate of policy related topics yesterday?

I cant seem to find in one of those where we "ask loads of questions" then lock the thread....
Chip started a new thread, as he had a new query about a copyright issue.

i know how you ean Westy, ive been reading thru a fair few of them the past few days, and it seems to me that a Mod seems to suddenly lock it when theyve had enough of that topic!!
even tho in my eyes it doesnt appear to be fully resolved and the thread starter (or anyone else on topic) is still in flow with questions to ask and not getting anywhere!

I see your points Kelv and Simon but as I see in those threads I have listed, the questions are answered directly by either one of the webteam or Stu himself, the topic is then closed as all the questions originally asked are answered. I see only one thread opened because another was locked, and it was started by Chip, on a similar subject but asking different questions.
Just my opinion

Dont follow Westy? If you mean all the threads I listed in post #2: I figured as you brought it up, I may as well take 5 minutes to list them so people can look at them and form a free opinion. If they agree with you then fair play! If not then we can talk about it and try to answer any questions
Ok cool, but do you mean ones in this room or general thread locked elsewhere?

Before I was a moderator I was a paid up member of passionford. I joined in august 2004 after buying my 2wd sierra sapphire cosworth from Pete (warleydaddy) having lusted after one from the tender age of 12. I bought it 6 days after my 21st birthday.
The one particular thing that prompted me to join up? The absolute legend Pete Mills (warleydaddy) coming to watch his old car at a track day, only to find that by the time he arrived, it had a broken diff (something to do with racing a Porsche) so he decided to toss me the keys to his current sapphire cosworth and instructed me to "go and give it death" which I duly did. Pete then towed me (in his old one, keep up) to a local garage where we were safe to call the AA and not receive any infractions from them about breaking it on a track day.
He then proceeded, on a seperate occasion, to drive from Dudley to Leicester on a shitty sunday to lay under my car with his friend wayne (burt) changing the diff for the princely sum of one hundred pounds. I even made him a cup of tea.
Furthermore, after chatting to Pete about social subjects we discovered that we both had similar taste in music and that we both play guitar! How strange! So Pete promptly invited me and a few of my friends over to the Actress and Bishop (Jewellry Quarter, Bham) to watch his band, Paper Tigers, play. Needless to say, I was very impressed with the quality of the music I heard that night. After the gig, pete asked me (as I was in my runaround estate car that eve) if I wouldnt mind dropping some of the bands gear off at their lockup. I duly obliged, and we loaded the car up with some guitars and seven people. On arriving at the "lockup" we were greeted with quite a sight, a full on practice room, complete with carpets, rugs, and a piano!! After loading the gear (and people) out of the car we duly had a good old sing song around the piano (let it be if im not mistaken) and then a tour around the old jewellry factory that it was based in, rumoured to be haunted, and the final resting place of seven men who died there in a fire some years before.
After scaring ourselves shitless using mobile phones as torches we decided it would be a fine end to the evening to have a kebab. So off we went, all seven of us in the car, me driving, (I distinctly remember Doug's head poking up from beneath the parcel shelf on this trip) and everyone singing along to radio Birmingham's finest tunes. Probably Fleetwood mac... but I digress.
After the great meal I dropped everyone off at their residences and made the long trip back to Leicester, accompanied by companions Stef Purps and Doug (who was by this time asleep on the rear seat) and we made it home safely, after stopping at corley services on the M6 for a sneaky KFC without waking Doug, a mission we accomplished successfully. The night ended with me tucking my good pal Doug into a nice warm floor in my lounge, the sofa's being occupied with such things as laundry, or shopping, or empty KFC bags placed there minutes before...
The point of this story is to illustrate to you Simon, and to anyone else, that I also am a user of this site, and that I have been since I joined up, and I will be until I leave. Just like you.
I point this story out to you as the definitive reason I have stayed all these (ok, four) years. It is because of people like Pete. Just like you.
I found inspiration on this site, I have made friends, very good friends. Just like you. (on a side note, one of whom recently said I can take his car and pay for it when I have the money, after only meeting me ONCE)
I have, as far as I am aware, achieved all this without controversy or major arguments. There may be the odd user who thinks I am a cunt, and they are entitled to their opinion. That is cool, I know I can be an utter cunt when I want to be, though being a moderator means I cant be quite so vociferuos in my opinion, not least without censoring it.
When the new moderators were announced I was as surprised as anyone else that I had "made it". I was, and still am, a relatively unknown quantity. I dont have the reputation some do (which I envy), I simply wanted to put back into this site something that I have taken from it: Friendship, trust, laughter and banter.
I dont consider myself more resonable than any of the other moderators. Do you want to know the one simple reason I dont hand out infractions like sweets?? (cue all the people I have given them to) its because I actually look up to the more advanced, and more established user. I look at post counts and join dates and I take all this into consideration before I post a reply, or make a comment about somebody. Thats not to say I will pick on the newer users, I simply mean I choose my words very carefully before posting.

steve thats a long read
but i totally agre with the what you've said. i kwon i haven't been on pf for long but i've been staff on other car sites b4 (mainly crusing site) so i know where you are coming from.
its nothing personnal when u lock or move a thread. At the end of the day its the mods an staff job to make sure the site is kept undercontrol. an that no one is spam posting and that threads are in the right section.
the story with you an pete i can relate to as well as one of my best mates i met threw another site an now we have jus started our own valeting business, an as i was out of work over christmas an the new year its been a god send. Its give me that lil bit of extra cash an if it wasnt for him buying all the gear, id be well stuck.
From what ive seen of this site so far the mods do an excellent job at keeping the right threads in the right section an if people are goin off topic putiing a hault to it.
Good work lads an keep it up
