Default ARP conrod bolts over torqued?

Ok guys i think i have a problem

I bought arp conrod bolts for my rst. I build up my engine and fucked up with the torque settings on the conrod bolts. They are way to tight! i have used the search function and they need to be around 35 nm but i have put on more then 80 nm maybe even more and don't dare to try out how far i can go on it, because there wil come a point that i tighten them up when i'm testing out at which torque i set them..

these bolts are expensive as **** so i don't want to buy new ones if not needed. Are they just like normally gone after one time use? can i unbolt them and set them good? do i need to leave it like this or do need to buy new ones?

What do you thinks guys? If i really really have to i will buy new ones because i don't want to fuck up my engine or if it goes really wrong my car...

I hope someone can shad a light on it..

i believe they're re usable when torqued correctly but in your case im unsura as over twice the torque may have streesed the bolt perhaps?

just put a set of these in mine, i doubt very much you will of done anything at all to them, they are very strong and not stretch bolts. but i think the standard ones are.
just undo and re torque them correctly mate.

I would undo them and retorque them, but thats just my opinion!
Make sure you use the grease that came with them and it's 22ftlb or 30nm recommended torque, although i think i went to about 35nm myself.

yes they are stretch bolts, as you have to measure the increase in length if done correctly...

i over did a set in mine by reading the wrong line of the bit of paper that came with the bolts and mine suffered none elstic deformation BADLY when over torqued by about twice the setting!

i would for the sake of the cost of the bolts or the cost of a bottom end buy a new set of bolts mate!

They might be expensive but cheaper than a new engine.

You have tightened them beyond the strech point., I would bite the bullet and get a new set.

i have just rebuilt a bottom end using arp bolts and you have to tighting them then undo them twice and the 3rd time tighting them and leve them as they must strech. the engine i did is running fine but i did do the right settings but i would think yours will be fine

Reaction of ARP for if there are more people having this problem in the furture!

Henri,The only way to determine if rod bolts are re-usable is to measure eachof the bolts free standing length before it is ever installed. Using achart like the one found on page 28 of our catalog you would need tokeep track of each rod bolts original length and its location in theengine. When you tear the engine down for maintenance again measure each rodbolts length-being careful to keep everything in the proper order so youcan compare the exact bolt to its original length. If any of the boltshave taken a permanent set and have stretched by .001" or more it wouldneed to be replaced. If you did not measure the bolts prior to their installation I wouldsuggest replacing them. It is likely they could be stretched and wouldneed to be replaced.Regards,Zac

Thats what I would have done, sounds like the cheap option compared to a bottom end
