Any help guys im going to my first head swap on my rs cab the weekend due to a foooked exhaust valve, Now instead if rplacing the valves ive bought a new head with a kent cam in and a vernier now ive looked at timing up the cam but obvious you cant see the cam timing mark as you can threw the holes on the standard pully. Anyone got any advise on this cheeRS

there was a post about this sort of thing the other day had some very helpfull answers. try searching for it .

what i THINK it was along the lines of the pully is turned so the woodruff key is pointed directly up or down @tdc ive not had any run ins with verniers so i dont really know.

most importantly after timing up rotate the engine a full ratation by hand before starting, its cheaper than new valves again!

 

My advice is set the engine up at standard with the standard pulley.

Despite what they tell you, the best way to get the power from a cam is to set it on a rolling road. Set up as standard and then either fit the vernier from there or get you tuner to fit it and time it from there. Standard timing will be fine to drive but not the optimum, this is what the tuner is paid for. Many wont touch cam timing and if thats the case walk away!

 

cheers all my gaffer at work sorted it for me we made a timing mark up using the origional cam mark etc etc im going to turn it all over twice before though lol

 

-dab a bit of tipex on it to highlight!!!

 

heads on now guys and ive turned her over twice by hand and no locking or dodgy noises as of yet havent had chance to start her yet - dont know if thats a good or bad thing? lol. will be sorted tommorow thanks to a dodgy sump gasket splitting!!

 

you need a timing disc and vernier - there is NO other way to do it properly.
