Default Running Costs of FRS

Hello all, I am in the running to buy a Focus RS currently - although I am tempted to hold off for a bit longer to see if prices continue to fall....! However, I have a few questions to ask some of you.

I have had a look but wanted to ask people about the dreaded MPG. Now, I am aware you don't buy a car like this to worry about MPG but, I would want an average return of 28 ish. My current car is returning low 30's which is not a problem and if I switched I would be happy to see a fall but I do enough miles to feel the effects if I suddenly started getting an average of mid 20's.

The other aspect was running costs. Apart from the brakes and tyres which due to being 18's and the brembo 4 pots considerably more expensive, but are all other running costs more standard?

A friend of mine has also recently bought a FRS and goes on consistently about how he bought a bad one as it always has niggles and problems. He is also saying its pretty difficult to buy a straight one and really trying to put me off - maybe he is just a bit bitter I don't know.

Anyone offer any advise?

Cheers,

Jamie.

Had mine a couple of months now, running cost isn't that bad,i'm 22 and pay Ł600 for insurance which is ok,service items aren't much different to be fair,i'm a mechanic so i get parts at trade from ford, plugs were about Ł7 each, fuel filter Ł12,oil filter Ł3,oil depends on what you run and the air filter was Ł22 fancy thing like a K&N panel filter.
I put EBC ultimax discs on with ferrodo DS2500 pads on the front pads were Ł117 and discs Ł60 each.

As for MPG,if you drive like miss daisy you may just squeeze 28mpg,if you drive it properly like it was meant to be then its just rude! and i really do mean rude, its more like gallons per mile than miles per gallon lol but its worth every litre of v-power it gussels!

Think you mate is bitter, there are lots of clean ones out there and they are getting cheaper,i bagged a 52reg car,one owner, full ford history,40k miles and absolutly out its box mint for a bit over 10k

Hope that helps, buy one they are fantastic!

i ve had my frs 2 years now and apart from the fuel the running costs are fairly cheap compared to a cossy or evo. the serviceing isnt that much different to normal cars and touch wood mines done 58k now and only needed a couple of sets of front tyres, thermostat housing (common fault) and a idle speed control valve (Ł50 ish quid from ford) as performance cars go i cant fault it for reliabilty and running costs, and it is a every day car. Ive got a decat and dream science (race map) on mine as the performance as standard is a bit shit for what you would expect, the only downside for the frs is the fuel, on local trips with a few blasts now and again i see about 170 miles to 55ish quid of super hope this helps but i would go for it and get one

intresting info there guys, nice read i want to hear a few peoples views
on them lol, as i plan to have one myself in the next couple of years .
what i find handy is that i work for a ford dealer down in the south west so when i nice clean one turns up will go and have a nosey around one
just like the look of them, the interior is ace too and power is not to bad either for std, had the chance to drive one when it came in for some bodywork touch up's from sales, i was very impressed, just a few areas that need a tweek here and there, like it needs to be lowered abit and up the power slightly too

Over 30mpg on the FRS is perfectly possible and have managed it on numerous occasions and thats not been completely off boost lol.

In the 4 years Ive had it Id reckon on an average of mid 20's in the mpg stakes, I've had 320 miles before the light came on, I've also had 170 miles before the light came on but there was some track use out of that tank!

Servicing is similar prices to the rest of the range but replacement parts do tend to incur an 'RS tax' , a full set of disks and pads from ford will set you back in the region of Ł700,( Aftermarket brakes can be had considerably cheaper than that though) there can also be delays in getting parts.

Mines got 50k on it now and touch wood I havent had a pick of bother with it other than the thermostat housing which got replaced under warranty.

to be honest mate, if ur that worried about a small change in fuel economy then you probly cant afford the car. i use V power only in the RS and i have to refill every 220 miles. this was costing Ł64 when petrol prices recently peaked. just put 2 michelin pilots sport on there at a cost of Ł260. the fronts only last me around 6000 miles. dont bother wasting ur time with cheaper tires as the RS's potential will be no where near reached if u put shit tires on there. ive had the car sinice new, and have had one or two niggles but nothing at all major. at the end of the day, ur buying a performance car so expect to pay performance running costs. theres nothing you can do about it. as for servcing and everything else, its great value for money. awesome car, handles brilliant and most of all is exclusive.

we've had our FRS just over a year, never had any problems, changed a couple of tyres & topped it up with screenwash a few times! normally gets near to 300 miles on a tank of fuel.

ive only had mine about 2 months but am very pleased with it,im also a mechanic so i do all my work myself.
as someone has already said because its a RS the prices of parts are slightly more but you expect it on a cars like these.
im very pleased with mine and i thinks its quite good on fuel but obviously wen you start booting it around the fuel does drop quite quick.

1 other thing to rember is they need to be run on 97+ octance fuel (super unleaded)
