There's only I I'd recommend, and that's 'cos it's the best!

http://www.powertools2u.co.uk/mall/p.../9227CB/123744

and that's the best price I've ever seen for it as it includes free delivery

Generally speaking, their slowest setting is higher than the fastest setting you should ever want to use a polisher

You can't beat the Silverline for a budget buy.

Yes you can, the Kestrel SIM180, its ALOT better than the silverline.

decent weight, good price, variable speed, soft start, low starting speed etc

try here - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kestrel-Heavy-...3286.m20.l1116

The Silverline Orange has soft start, it's cheaper and AFAIK comes with a 3 year guarantee.

yes but the start speed is higher, there noisier, they weigh more, and you need a 3 year guarentee because they break. the kestrel is a far superior machine, I know alot of professional detailers that have them as back up machines to there makita or metabo.

I will concede that mine did break BUT I had a brand new one delivered within a week.

I think for the price you can't go wrong for a first machine.

another silverline user. should be getting my makita soon though. mainly because i do part time detailing at weekends. the silverline has been fine so far. i was using the porta cable until some scumbag nicked it out of my boot. DA machines are a much safer way for the amatuer to correct their paint. mainly due to the lower temps reached by the polishing head in contact with the paint surface compared to a rotary. It's also easier to get a more refined finish without tonnes of practise. it's a myth that you can't get as good a finish with them compared to a rotary.

before using a rotary on your car, get yourself a scrap pannel and practise like mad. i'll almost guarentee that you'll get buffer trails to start with and wonder why and then have a bit of trouble getting them out. it takes a huge amount of practise and product knoledge to get 100% correction that's blemish free.

another thing to consider is don't scrimp on the pads and polishes. if using a rotary the 3m pads and polishes are superb. menzerna polishes coupled with lake and country ccs pads are also spot on. get a good flexible backing plate to help with transitions over the curves of pannels.

main thing is, take your time, do your prep work properly and it'll make a huge difference to the out come. overall enjoy it. if you don't then it'll reflect (pardon the pun) in the end result.

I use a bluepoint one and it seems fine for me, comes with a hard head and two soft ones. variable speed too, not too pricey either

Its alright.

It works as a random orbital polisher which is different to the ones mentioned above. Far more "fool proof" to use and safer in the hands of a beginner. the machines mentioned above are better suited to experienced guys.

you will still get decent results mind.

Yup i agree as mentioned in my previous post. It's a DA machine (dual action) it's more powerful than the porter cable as that runs on 110v and the megs 220 runs off 220 - 240v

also these machines tend to be handy to get in places that a rotary can't as they're a fair bit smaller and easier to control. most good detailers will have both in their kit. not a necessity though.
