I guess your skimming the head for reasoners other than just making sure is flat?
as I've only relay played around with turbo cvh's and skimming the head is only done as a last resort as any removal of head material will up the comp ratio, it's hard to say how much you can safely remove? i would Guess about 1mm ? i could be wrong...? would would have to work out the comp ration with such a reduction as it could become undesirable high...eek

Cheers

Steve

it really depends, when im skimming a head i dont like to go more than .75mm, i just skim small amounts at a time i.e .1mm untill all the face cleans up

the maximum i will machine off a head to stay safe is 1mm , as above tho get them to take 0.1mm cuts at a time ,until its clean .

at my old place, we used to take off .020", any more than that and we'd fit a shim. not that thats all you can take off, it was just like a safe figure.

as long as there's sufficient clearance between your valves and pistons, your head face and seats and provided the CR isn't over the top, there's no real 'limit'.

thanks so far, the only reason for skiming it is id just like to up the comp ratio, the curent ratio (standard) is 9:75:1, alot of you have said 1mm is this eqaul to 10thou? not good at maths lol, and 55thou that seems alot is that gonna work?

well taking 1mm of the head will up the comp ratio. depending which style head you start off with. you will have different comp results... what sort of comp are you affter...?

1mm is not equal to 10 thou, 1mm is 39 thou.
