right in the next 3 months i will be 17, and i have been doing some imaginary quotes, to have a rough guide of what insurance prices will be. The cheapest I have found so far is around 1800 for a 1.25 fiesta worth around 1800 quid third party fire and theft. Does anyone know anywhere that will be cheaper? The quote above is from confused.com. compare the market and beat that quote are way higher, and direct line are around the same price as the the best quote from confused.
Also, i dont think i will be going with this company for insurance

insurance means fuck all nowadays. biggest rip off market there is. isn't worth the paper its printed on. even on a Ł200 1.0 litre banger you pick up from the scrap heap will still be costing you near enough Ł1000 to insure
My younger brother passed his test last year, he's 18 and has a 1.3 fiesta, he was getting quotes aroung the Ł2k mark, so he had to get my mam to insure it and go as a named driver, still costing him Ł1100.

How do you expect young drivers to build up ncb if they keep getting fucking ripped apart by insurance companies and people like me that do a full time uni course how the fuck do they expect us to pay that fucking amount when you're a student!
sorry just going through some of my own insurance woes at the moment and just having a bit of a rant at car insurance.

problem is they are clamping down on that now, so if you have a bump going to college/work, the insurance will turn around and say that you are using the car daily when you are not the main driver, and will cancel the policy
FUCKING EXTORTION

i understand that prices should be higher for youg drivers, but 2 grand a year for 1.25 zetec fiesta, or a 1.2 corsa or similar? Its ridiculous. I dont even earn that a year!
totally agree, insurance is too expensive for the service that is provided! cost me nearly 2 k for my rst at 18! try bell though mate as their the cheapest that i found.
As expensive as it all sounds, statistics show that people under 25 are accountable for about half of all casualties and fatalities in RTAs. Someone else can google them, I don't have time and can't be arsed but it shows up every year on the government website and in the local newspapers after just about every accident...
It's not great and we've all been spanked for the high premiums but it's life. And put yourself in the insurer's shoes.... if it was my money, I wouldn't insure a 17 year old bloke for ANY price.
Doesn't help your original question though.
What I suggest to customers buying cars for their kids is to insure it themselves [some insurers WILL recognise named drivers and give some NCB] or contact Norwich Union and get one of these black box, pay as you drive things for a year.

Flux nailed me with that when I was 18, got black listed.
Principals are for people that can afford them!
Either way, 1st insurance IS expensive but it's not forever

its more to do with i really would not like the idea of NU knowing my every move.
Then what the fuck is the point of getting a drivers licence if that's going to be the attitude of the insurer! Might as well raise the driving age to 25 or whatever seems acceptable. But the fact is whether you be 17 or 27 you are still a newly qualified driver with no previous driving experience.
There is a reason youngsters insurance is expensive. It's to stop them buying cars that are too powerful when they have no driving skill or experience. The ones that do afford to insure them often smash them up.
My daughters quotes were stupid, but Ł600ish a year for a Ka or Micra is the norm.
Work your way up to the more powerful cars with experience. Best for everyone.

I paid Ł980 at 17 for a 1.25 fiesta...so I doubt you'll get it under Ł1200-1300 being a bloke sadly...that first year was with ladybird insurance (it was cheap, I didn't pick the name lol)....who do a different insurance trading names for men/older drivers...they might be cheap? They were mid table on confused.com for me but managed to knock it down on the phone.
What I found out (that you may or may not know) is that fiesta zetecs are group 6 insurance (1.6 zetec s for example is only group 8 iirc?)....so you might be able to get something a bit quicker for Ł200 more premiumwise...which may make it less bad!
Fiestas, for what they are...are quite high up the groups really for how crappy they are...considering kas etc are really low groups.
Having the insurance in your name but a woman over 35 on the policy is sometimes a good way to knock it down...so adding your mum to your policy may be a way to get a few quid off if upping your excess/keeping it alarmed in a garage/having an agreed mileage that's so low you can't drive the car doesn't help!

what they should do really is limit the brake horsepower of a car for the first year (eg 90bhp, as that then allows drivers to have anything up to around a 1.4), then after a year of driving, they can have a car up to 120 brake, and then after that no limit. That would be suitable. As its the same/similar with bikes. At 16 you can have a 50cc restricted to 30 (yet non are as its dangerously slow
), then after a year of motorcycle experience/or get a car license, you can have a 125 upto 14 horsepower (not sure on exact bhp limits mind you).

Have you tried adding your mum to the policy and upping your voluntary excess a bit? I think for males especially adding an older woman is worth a shot!
To be honest they shoot themselves in the foot with insurance...because they make cars uninsurable to young people, by that I mean shit cars...not even decent ones....more people are going to drive without insurance/being listed on their mums policy...pushing the premiums up.

A 1.4 fiesta may be a bag of bones, but it's all down to insurance groups of course. Find something 3 or under for your 1st year i'd say or else you'll be paying thousands..

you'd still pay thousands anyway. a friend of mine was paying 2000 a year to insure a fiat cinq (grp1) and this was a few years ago! (was fully comp though, but would still be a grand if it were third party i reckon)
It depends on where you live as well of course. if your in a high risk area, there's little you can do unfortunately.

Luckily I'm in a "B" zone, so it's not too bad.
