i have a mate with a st esc cos.now its been sat up in storage for 2 years without being started
is it best to put some oil in the top then disconnect something so it just turns over without starting first?
if so whats best to disconnect?
he needs to shift it out for a wash(its fooking minging) but doesnt want to do any damge to the engine on the old girl.
i thought top up with oil and then pull the coil lead off to start with but do st's have one?as i think they are coil pack instead arent they?
cheers in advance people

Will do it good to be started rather than left standing even longer IMHO.
take the oil feed to the turbo off, and pour oil down it, to backfill it to the pump, and pull the king lead off the dizzy so you can turn it over.
2 years isnt actually that big a deal though really.
Leave it running the whole time he is washing it, and try and make it a monthly ritual to just go and idle it for 5 mins, stops one set of valves being open the whole time and corroding and loosing seal.

turn it over by hand first
then remove plugs and leads and turn it over by the starter until the oil light goes out
then plug it up and fire her up
once it's out and run for a few minutes you can turn it off and then change the oil as it will have warmed up a bit
alternativly, use an indoor heater/blower under the car to heat up the oil for a few hours first before doing the above

cheers chip.i didnt even think about the turbo. the battery has been a a decent charger from the word go so should be ok.he doesnt bring it out and start her at all
think he is scared he will realise what he is missing and at this moment he cant use it due to other things in life
it doesnt have the coil my saff does so i asume you disconnect the wiring plug that goes to the coilpacks instead?

yes mate, just unplug it and make sure you don't blow it up
i remember that we had to unplug the dizzy wiring plug on a granada pinto injection once when we were doing a compression check as it blew the internals up as it had no where to go
much better than removing the plugs and having petrol fumes coming out with a spark close by

Apologies, didnt notice you said ST, yes unplug the coilpack instead then.
Or in fact, better still, unplug the ecu, then you dont get petrol going through either, but as its only for a few seconds (till the oil light goes out) you are turning it over, it shoudlnt really matter, so I go for the easy option personally!
