they have always come off ok for me. sure you haven't missed a bolt? how about tapping it with a rubber mallet? anyway i would just have left the collet in the sump, i doubt it would go anywhere

even if there was a bolt left at least part of it would start to come away from the block!

i'd go with the tapping with mallet idea and double check all the bolts too, there are loads of the little fuckers.
some one may of siliconed it in or something so when u do get it off u might have to clean it up and scrape the old crap off

a tip for putting it back on, put the gasket on the sump and push all the bolts through their holes to hold it in place then offer it up to the block and get some screwed in.
its a pig otherise and u'll be there another 3 hours trying to get the gasket to stay in the right place while trying to bolt it up.

go for running a knife along it too.

even if its just one side then pry that side open a bit and it'll give u a bit of leverage to pull the rest off.

thats if its siliconed in there btw.
its ifs just tight on the gasket then wack it. it'll go in the end.

and try prying it and wacking it at the same time

Well I asked a mechanic mate of mine at the time and he said just leave it. He said the pickup has a gauze on it anyway so even if it did get to the head of the pickup it won't go anywhere.

My sister ran the car for a year or so after with no probs.

FWIW though I'm not reccomending you do it, but if it's in the sump I'd be pretty sure it can't go anywhere based on what I was told.

If it was my car though it'd bug me and I'd get it out. Have you ried a telescopic magnet down the oil drain hole to pick it up?
