Default the brakes on my 306 diesel

my handbrake works very well

when i put my foot on the foot brake, the rear of the car drops, and sometimes locks up one of the rear wheels

is there a reason for this???

there is a compensator of some sort on the drivers side rear, by the rear beam, is this adjustable??

if so which way do i turn to reduce the braking to the rear????

there is adjusters inside the brake drum, you can see it thru one of the wheel bolt holes, looks like a cog, think its clockwise to open the shoes up or anti to close them, prob best poppin the drums off as mine were pretty hard to move,my rears would workmat all and needed them adjusted out,had no hamdbrake either.hth

by the way this is on my d turbo on bendix system, dont know if they differ from others or not

Compensator could well be seized

Or the spring that operates it snapped

It alters the braking force to the rear wheels more if there is weight in the back of the car, when the rear suspension goes down the compensator valve is opened to let more brake pressure to back wheels

So yours is probably seized open,so the valve thinks the cars suspension is fully down/fully loaded so is letting too much brake pressure through to rear wheels

not done any work on the brakes at all, apart from change the from rubbers, but it was the same before this

the spring on th compensator is fine as i checked that, i sort of assumed the compensator was knackered,

i think i'll just put a new one on then and see how it goes

i dont think i'll adjust the back brakes as they work fine,, well a little too well...lol
