Left yesterday morning for ford fair around 6:30 after around 4hrs sleep, met the guys at 7am @ j2 m5, and we were on our way for 10past.

Gave it a bit of love in 5th, and heard a baaad graunching, sounded like bottom of car hd fell out lol

pulled over, no gears. great.

called aa, they were sending someone asap, I was only about 15 mile away from silverstone!

then a random van pulls up in front of me, asks what problem was, and if I was going to FF. I said WAS, and he then said he'd tow me the remainder of the way by a tow bar. thought sod it and went with him. cheers pal!!

got to fast ford stand, towed me as far as he could, and me, simon/ff and another few peeps pushed to the final resting place.

had a few mates come over to try and diag the fault, started it up and could move forward/back ok, albeit with a bit of noise.

aside from the fact it took 7hrs from leaving ff gates to getting home (took 1.5hrs getting there) ayone wanna guess problem?

its an ap modified 4 paddle clutch, not sure on cover and a bernie stage 2 box with quaiffe atb diff...

oh and a BIG thanks to tony c & warleydaddy for waiting with me, becky & my lad while the aa turned up (only 5hrs,not too bad ) - thanks guys!!

what's recommended then, the stage 2 plus is not that much different.

could go mtx box bit aren't they a right ball ache to be fitted?

If you were accelerating in 5th gear when it happened then you have stripped 5th gear. Common failure.

Best bet is to get your box built into a stage 2+.

 

Not sure what the problem is yet mate, i'll get the good tony to rip it out when he has time (or he can supervise) but something is properly fooked...

i'll give you a buzz when we know what happening

As Karl says ive seen a few boxes that my mate has stripped all teeth of of 5th in his S1 when accelerating. He has just fitted a mtx box with equal length shafts after getting board of going through so many boxes ,it transforms the way the car puts its power down and should take the power(260+ ATW) no problem so double bonus

 

what kind of cost is an mtx box, I know they aren't much to buy, but how hard to fit?

 

Stu PM "wul young" on here he has just fitted one to his S1 and he did talk about mibi making up a few of the kits if there was a market and it tests out ok in his car.
