Loads of folk on here have one, including me.

I love mine, it's never been a problem, good with other dogs, loves people but is scared of my brothers kid. Runs away

Alot of bad press about these dogs but 99% of that is to do with the owners, any dog has the abilty to bite!

I looked after one last summer.Lovely dog's,can be a bit exciteable with new people,as they jump at you sometimes. My mate's two are fine with me now, after knowing for me a while.

Agree with Stoo about the bad press thing.

snap my two are same i got a 2 yr old and a 3 1/2 yr old both lay on them pull them about etc, dogs just wag and come back for more, they are lovely, just bad press but mostly if you read it,it is a pic of a staff, but when read thru is pit bulls that cause the prob,as also said above any dog can bite, you could have a poodle that attacked and bit and a rotty that was gentle as anything,it how thier raised, make sure you get a pup tho, then train it your self.
for more info go to http://www.staffybullterriers.com/forum/ cheers neil.

Got a 3yr old Staff, he's fine around most people, kids no problem at all!

The dumbfuck doesn't like blokes in hats though so therefore constantly goes for the postman! I allow it cos he's a gobby northern twat!

Wicked dogs, very playful!

any dog is only as good as the way the owner treats and brings it up surely.if you treat it like shit it will be a viscious fooker and not safe around others.most of its temprement is down to the owner of the animal,be it staf, bullmastif etc....
just my opinon tho

Hi

Going by your question I assume you have children? It's true ANY dog can bite but considering you have kids, why go for a dog that has the potential to damage your kids more than most other dogs?

Yes any dog can turn but most if that does happens a staff could kill (as they have), maybe get something less potentially dangerous if your kids are young especially.

I agree alot of it is to do with owners, but dogs AREN'T robots and even the best nutured dog could turn, we don't know what goes on in a dogs head.

ps and in anticipation of the backlash, yes i think they're typically owned by chavs, in fact i most of the idiots i know select these dogs as 'pets' including the local drug dealers

My parents had a 6 month old Staffie bitch at home when I was born. I still have all my fingers etc etc & so does my younger brother. In fact so do my father & my uncle, both of whom were a similar age when my Grandfather bought the family's 1st Staffie in 1947.

Ok, you have to be careful with them if another dog wishes to fight but around humans they are fine.

But don't take my word for it, try:-

He is gorgeous Slim, really.

& as for you "fuzzy", have you read what the stats are on Alsatians, Dobermanns & Pit Bulls?

None of which are Staffies but it's the Staffie that gets the bad press.

Oh & check Rottweiler while you are at it too, kill more poeple than even Pit Bulls manage.

My mates sister breeds staffs and they are quality dogs. Its not the dogs that are the problem but the arsehole owners! Ave been around them all my days and ive not had a problem with them yet. All depends on how they're raised.

by "these dogs" i mean all these types of viscous animals not any specific one. are you saying staffies are ok because they only maul the same amount of children as alsatians? if your happy risking your childrens face just to prove a point then good on you. im not.

Cheers for the advice

But

I brought him home, and within half a hour i had took him back

He is a gorg dog, just needs a loving home (was beaten at his last home ) He kept running round my house, as it was a new place and i couldnt stand it , plus the leather setee has a nice big rip in it where he managed to get hold of a football

Think i'll just settle with a goldfish

I dont think type of dog has any relevance to how they behave IMO, its how they brought up.

We have a (we think) Staffie/Labrador cross, basically it looks like a Staffie, but is WAY bigger, Labrador size.

Its mega strong and im sure can easy do some serious damage or kill someone if it wanted to, and it looks/sounds scary (loudest bark ive ever heard, honestly), but in reality is the daftst softest sillyest dog you can imagine.

How ours was brought up tho is a bloody mystery!

Got it from the Animal Shelter which seemed a bad plan to me, esp as it was found abandoned tied to a lamppost, but tho it was abandoned, it soooo confusing why...

Its incredibly well trained, knows every command under the sun (inc bizzare ones like "rodeo" which makes her jump and spin around like a bucking bronco ), doesnt bark (took about 2 weeks till we heard her bark), doesnt get on the furniture (well she does now, we had to teach her that we didnt mind!), doesnt chew up stuff, doesnt pee or poo anywhere, is dead clever, always wants to play fetch n stuff but soon as you say "no bedtime" or "no more ball" or anything (she seems to understand perfect english, its bizzare ) and she just stops.

She a bit nervous of a lot of certain things which makes it seem like she was mis-treated by old owner, but its so bizzare how she couldve been mis-treated and then abandoned, but be SO well trained and behaved

Strange.

But anyhow, its not the breed of dog, its how they been brought up, same as humans.
Same as humans tho, some are just natually clever/stupid/soppy/psycho

Dogs are not by nature viscious towards humans. They can be trained to be & thus be used as Police/guard dogs, which is where Alsations etc come in & Staffies don't as they are too small to be effective for such tasks.

You wanna talk Pit Bulls, different story. To the extent that the pit complex at Spa the last tim ethey had a GP there was guarded against post-race invasion by Pit Bulls.

& I'm sure there are Pit Bull owners out there who don't brutalise their pets & whose children are still all in 1 piece.

Fact of the matter is that if you brutalise any dog it may bite you. The bigger the dog, the harder the bite.

It is foolish then to describe 1 particular breed of dog as inherently dangerous.

Especially if you are confusing them with something else.

Have a ganders on here gives a small insight into most breeds. I have just got a Victorian Bulldog and they have an excellent temperament and i have 5 cats and they get on like a house on fire.

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/petreliability.htm#E

I do like Staffs but have wanted a Vic Bulldog for years and after waiting for years to get one i finally got one was only 3 litters last year.

Remember if you do change your mind and buy a pup all pups puppy bite and can be painful till there grown out of it.
