Default WTF does the power steering pressure switch do?

Pretty sure there aint a warning lamp and it driven by the engine not electric motor so what does it do?

If it raise's engine RPM under load then changing ECU will have done away with this and made it redundant, yes?

Is this a small-turbo EEC4 car Paul? The PS pressure switch is normally fed into the ECU for idle speed control input. It is also used as an input during some test/diagnostic processes on the EEC4 ECU to perform some service tests.
If the EEC4 ECU is no longer fitted, then the switch will have no purpose AFAIK.
Cheers
Rich

Depends. Some ECUs have an input for this also.

Brilliant Rich , just as i thought. It was EEC4.

One other thing, if not running closed loop is the lamba required for anything else? I know it is prefferable but for the mean time just to keep it simple.

if it's running open loop, presumably you have no catalyst fitted? The lambda sensor is only there in conjunction with closed-loop fuel control, to keep the catalyst happy.

Nope

Off it comes then
