Default Mint 3 Door smashed up by garage

Hi, whilst i had my 3 door in the garage getting a wheel bearing done, they decided to take it out to clean it and crashed it. It has ripped the front passengerside wing off, bent the bonnet and smashed the grille. Is it still possible to source the original panels? as the garage are going to repair it. Or should i take a different route?
It was a straight 50k car with no damage history

Thanks, pics to follow[/img]

Took it out to clean it? Hmmm that's a good one. Took it for a 'test drive' and have buggered it.

I'd expect nothing less than a full decent repair at a garage of your choice. If it's as mint as you say then you really DO need to get a decent job done or it will devalue your car, through their fault.

I'd be running round with a if I were you.

Gutted for ya

Si

If I were u mate, I would let my insurance company get involved with it, and let them sort it out. The garage should not have taken it out without your permission in the first place so they are totally in the wrong there. They should only have taken it out to road test it after replacing the wheel bearing but not as they say "to clean it". if it was our three door i'd be f*****g raging and the mechanic would not have had any kneecaps left. Gutted for ya mate, hope u get it sorted. From one 3dr owner to another. I would also name and shame the garage so that no other RS owners take their cars there.

I'm not sure if you can still get the parts from Ford. If you can't then the car will never be worth as much with pattern parts At least the bonnet and grill can be sourced second hand.

Default Repair

The owner said one of the younger mechanics come round the corner and caught the step on a luton van?
He then phoned me to say they had damaged the wing, (how do i put pics on here).
They have said hey will get it repaired, but it wont be the same, am i within my rights to not want it back as if you can no longer get wings/innerwings/grilles and bonnets etc how can they repair it properly?

You are within your rights mate to not have them repair it, you should demand to take it to a garage of your choice to get it repaired properly, and not some cheap botch up job, that's why I said let your insurance company deal with it. I would also ask why they haven't sacked the shithole who did it.

Use your insurance cover to take it up with their insurance co.

That's the Legal Expenses bit most of us have - get your co to sort it out with the garage on your behalf.

You should get hire car, and good repair all sorted by your people, but using the garages money / insurance.

Absolutly (sp) guttted for ya mate, Take it to the best body shop you can find and get them to do it for you. A classic car restoring bodyshop would be your best bet i would of thought.

cheers steve

I would make them buy it at the market value of replacing the car like for like. You dont want to be the owner of a crashed and repaired 3dr thats not your fault.

this is exactly the reason I do all my own work, just nobody trustworthy around , good idea on the rev-limiter though Stavros, but would you hide it as the fookers would prob re-set it anyway

Mate to be honest with you I would go and find the BEST bodyshop you possibly can, prob somewhere that does classic restorations, and get the garage to admit liability ( I can't see how they can deny it!) and make them foot the bill for a top top repair, anything less will devalue your car, even more than it has been now DON'T let them repair it, they will probably do it as cheaply as they can. Try ringing brooklyn ford in redditch, havn't got the number sorry, but there is a big RS department there and they might be able to source some new old stock for you

And I would hope the garage have offered you a few crates of beer as well

All they offered me was a 56 reg fiesta, and i got a letter from them admitting liability and saying they will repair using new genuine ford parts

I'd get it repaired and let them foot the cost to whatever standard will make you happy...whats the point in going through your insurance ...it wasn't your accident but totally the garages fuck up. They shouldnt have took it out in the first place!

Id take them for the full value of the car as it was!
Fucking wankers!
Last time I took my car to a garage for some work he said are you leaving it with us? No Ill wait with the car thanks.
He looked really gutted and tried to talk me into coming back for it but I knew his ideas....
I ALWAYS wait with the car now, its the only way to be certain they are not going to do a Ferris Beuler up the road soon as your back is turned

Just to clarify, as it would appear people are totally misunderstanding what you've written........

Are you saying that a mechanic moved the car out of the workshop, and dented it on another van that was parked near there, and NOT that there was some huge pile up whilst the mechanic was out for a ragging.

As for the "who gave these people permission to clean it", that's usually looked on as a nice bit of after sales service and customer care.

Totally out of order fucking joy riding in someone elses pride and possession i know a guy who worked/works at ford and the same thing happened to him, he put the car (saph cos) into the workshop where he works and a couple of the spanner monkeys who work there decided to take the car out down the A30 and unded up rapping it round the crash barrier on the M25 junction totally mullering the front and rear end (write off)

if i were you i would take the car to a pukker body shop get an estimate to put it right (total cost) then go back to the garage who went out in the car joyriding and say you owe me this £ figure go and get the money now,

I would also fucking hurt somebody aswell not a nice thing to say during the season of goodwill but this sort of situation really pisses me off

sorry for you mate
