So what do you think happens at a garage then?

The nice pretty girl on reception will be driving it and treating it like her baby?! no, it doesn't happen like that. As ginge said mechanics in most garages drive alot more expensive cars than a Ł8k sierra, to the mechanic it'll be just another wheel bearing on another car.

Someone mentioned that somewhere he worked - xr2i-carl - they mucked about in customers cars, sideways in and out of the workshop, it happens in the best of main dealers, you'd be suprised as to them it's just another e class worth Ł30k, means nothing when your driving them all day everyday.
Which is exactly why I don't use garages. They just don't give a shit unless they are a specialist outfit.

and thats cause at a specialis you ALLOW them to rag the shite out of your car,,,,, its called being set up

oh and as for mechanics not being experienced,,,,,,, ive heard of a good few mechanics who DONT work at MY dealership who got into it as a youth training scheme when they got caught stealing cars and a way to help curb that addiction with a job training scheme,,,,,,, theres another place to worry

oh and i worked with a fleet sales person at a nissan dealership who was about 50ish,,,, hes been a salesman for years and has no interest in cars but when i took the demo 350z out he asked if i enjoyed it and i said " cant rag someone elses car"

HE THEN TAKES ME OUT IN THE DEMO AND GETS THE FUCKER PROPER SIDEWAYS ALONG THE A1 AT ROUNDABOUTS AND EVEN MANAGED TO DRIFT IT A LITTLE

moral of that story is not everyone who drives a 4x4 company car cant drive,,,,, he used to own a triumph dolmite, then a few cossies then went up until he got a porsche for a few years then got bored and invested his money in property,,,,,,,,, he was just a car sales manager to me until he took me out,,,,, was well impressed and scared at the same time

mate in saying that we also get wankers who loose shite/break shite and fucking blame us too

even worse the women who blamed us for her dented sump and kicked off saying " one of our monkeys had jacked the car up when they serviced it"

we had to ACTUALLY SHOW THE STUPID MORON we dont have jacks due paying alot of money for our 19 fucking 4 poster ramps that get serviced every 3 months,,,,, and they dont reach her sump

not to mention we would have prob charged her for the dented sump when we replaced it cause if we are gonna take the piss we will do it properly

the scratches down the sump make it look like shes drive over a garage post and dented it,,,,, judging by the other work we have done on her car like 2 wing mirrors helps us realise shes a shite driver too

dont worry her car has been "marked" so the next time she gets a sevice i recon ill hit the parts budget on her car parts alone that week

your quite right, but alot of mechanics don't view it as a expensive car as you or i would, it's just another merc, the fact it's a merc don't even mean shit as you work/drive them all day everyday you don't really give a toss it's a merc. it's just a car.

Obviously theres the whole, it doesn't matter it's not your car you should drive it with respect argument which yeah is right but there is a difference between going sideways in and out the workshop and genuine dangerous driving on the roads.

As someone said specialists are they way to go if you have a rare/unusual car imho as there is the possibility that main dealers won't have the required experience in your model of car within they're dealership, where as a dedicated specialist will know your car inside and out and will more than likely know of the top of his head what is causing your problem and will inturn save pounds on diagnostic work.

Please note, i'm using merc as an example, don't think all merc dealers are hammering they're cars around!!

james the fucking specialists START in the fucking dealerships as monkeys then when they stop making them cars and bring out new ones the mechanics start theres specialist business as the fucking standard of training for new cars for master techs is fucking spot on

i cant BET you that my parts master tech knows 400% MORE THAN ALOT OF SPECIALIST when it comes to ANY STANDARD ford made from 1980 to present,,,,, that included the fucking part numbers of the parts needed off the top of his head

thats also why i call him "the oracle"

ask him a question about stuff and he will tell you the comon faults, the location of where the part is,,,,the fucking shelf location aswell as the fucking part number,,,, were as the IDIOTS like me are still surfing E-cat to find the parts slide

think you need to work at a PROPER main dealer to UNDERSTAND how good they are,,,,,, too many idiots in this world diagnosing problems and aint got a fucking clue

ive even had a fucking PLUMBER tell me a part IS available for a 89 transit with a auto gearbox cause he bought one 2 years ago and i should get a grown up to ask him to order it

fucking monkeys the general public,,,,,,,, though saying that some garages aint much better

what i'm saying is if you have say a rs500 for example with a strange boost related issue and you took it to a ford dealer would they know what to do? I wonder how many would try and plug it into wds?

Now if you took it into Stu for example i'm pretty sure he'd know what to do/check a damn sight quicker than 80% of ford dealers.

not quite sure how we've got here though, prehaps a Back to the topic is required!

I would phone Claims Care Centre and get the case dealt with by Paul Hills, awsome solicitor he is, and fast, as said don't accept a repair unless difference in value is paid to you, you are also entitled to a hire car right away as yours is not safe to drive with jagged bodywork etc so screw all you can.
I also agree with go for a historic restorer on something like this.
If you phone 07850671020 ask for stuart they will come to you do all the paperwork while you sit back and have it all done for you.

back to ragging merc's abot the place

one garage i worked for (independant) the boss and head honcho would go out to road test any cars that needed road testing, that way, if he binned it, he would pay for it

another garage i worked for (again independant) their workshop superviros (the guy who ran the workshop and oversaw everything and was second in command to the boss) would do all the road tests or the head MOT guy would take it for a spin, literaly around the block as it was a one way system where we were

but when i worked for a main dealerit was almost "yeah, go on, take it for a spin, mash the foot into the carpet and see how long you can get the wheels spinning for" etc, and then everyone ran away when someone binned a motor

Id be fookin fuming !!,I would hit them with the lot !

Trading Standards,Total Repair at a Ford Bodyshop,Loss of earnings
to take it there etc......

This is why i always write the mileage down and leave the car with the fuel light on ..

Then again thats why i do all the work myself on the cossie.

I put the ST into a garage for a water pump, when i got it
back, it had been out on a " test drive ", had no fuel left
and the stereo was left up silly loud .

Coonts .

Any progress?
I'd be seething about this.

Not at all surprised though, I was in a tyre place where a few mates work when one lad took a customers Pro-Drive scooby out for a ragging.
He got owned though - he went past the customers house at warp 9 and was spotted. Customer got straight on the phone. The manager was spinning him a load of shit about having to properly test the brakes but he wasn't having any of it.
I left before the lad driving returned. No doubt he went home with his P45 that day.
