I just downloaded the PROPER Windows Defender last night got rid of the AVG Free Edition!

Bloody good job I did, the Windows Defender found 3 infected files and fucked them straight off whereas the wank AVG sat there and told me my PC was fine minutes beforehand!

Get it mate, good bit of kit and easy to use! AND it's windows backed, not some low grade free edition rubbish! OH AND there's no need for lenghty regisrations!

AVG doesn't block any Spyware does it? You have to pay for the extra on the latest version don't you?

AVG is not crap just because it's free IMO.. no antivirus/antispyware is 100% foolproof all of the time, there will always be something that pulls out stuff that another one doesn't.

I know many people who use AVG (people that know what else is out there) and never had any problem. There's always the option of running a couple of different ones to cover the odds

AVG combined with Zone Alarm Firewall (Windows Firewall turned off), and Spybot spyware removal! Awesome combination, and for people who think u pay for security, u are very wrong!

i could send you loads of viruses that avg would not detect and it would create diaster with your pc

avg is good cos its free but thats all its good at

twice avg cost me to reinstall windows(16 meg line 24/7 downloads)and lost over 400 gig

it was my brother who works for rolls royce who recomended f-secure,mainly use it on works pcs etc and is described as the rolls royce of antivirus/spyware compared to the lada that is avg

you pay for what you get,if it was good youd have to pay!!carry on using avg and it will cost you in software loss!

fair enough, everyones' experiences are different I guess - looks like you are doing very different stuff to this guy looking for reasonable protection on a lappy connected to the internet.
If you are "losing" 400gig of stuff, maybe you need a back-up regime as much as you need expensive anti-virus

AVg is shit. Its alright when you consider its free but as i get tired of saying you won't know with an AV if it misses things. Best thing is to get as many as you can and test them all, infect a spare pc. If not then look at some reviews.

When people mention AVg they always mention either:

free or
Never had any problems.

Its a shame when security is the biggest factor that most people choose economy and convenience to keep them happy.

Kaspersky, Nod, trend micro pc cilin are better.

Its because they dont have the decent stuff on the shelves like NOD32 avast, avg.

I have tried avg free, avast, norton(which wasnt worth the box it came in) and none have been as good as NOD32 which ive been using for the last 8months, the pc is on the net every single day and its spot on

In terms of statistics NOD32 from http://www.eset.com/ has a great record of defence regarding virus, trojan, rootkit etc and out performs all other products on independant tests.
