Default today my car got a new name...

skippy...

...the bush kangeroo

started kangerooing on the motorway at about 70ish stopped doin it after a few mins it was fine on full throttle tho.

its occasionally hiccuped around town in traffic n stuff but i just put this down to it being the autobox ECU not liking the manual transmission, as all the 24vs ive been in have slight troubles with this kinda stuff...

but this kangerooing was a bit weird...

i'm thinkin funky TPS? as when i opened n closed the throttle a few times it seemed to clear it.

am i right in thinking its gonna be TPS, MAF, or MAP related

only problem is its all fine again now n drives perfect, so possibly intermittent fault? i figure its worth checking out tho just incase it comes back, as its a tad embarasing

the car's getting new plugs tomorrow regardless as theyve been in there for an unknown ammount of time, but i heard of sum1 who was having similar problems (his was all the time tho) n it was just his shitty old plugs

if im changing the plugs i wanna use some witha cooler range for the laughing gas... anyone know what std plugs are for the 24v? n could tell me what one grade cooler is?

also ill be gettin some from halfords ($$$!) so shall i got for the bosh super4s, copper ones, platinum ones, v electrode ones etc. etc. to me a plug is just a plug, ive always used std NGK ones or motorcraft ones

if there 200 quid a set then it is possable that they are causing the prob and the bloke sold it because of that, as he didn't want to spend 200 quid on a set

not what you want with trial n error tho

next time im round my mates ill swap my leads with his n see if his car has any problems

altho i wouldnt have thought it'd be plugs n leads coz its perfect on full throttle, n i thought that this is where you'd notice the ignition side breaking down...

Burton Power do the leads for Ł20, you have to wait a while but they are good. Failing that, got mine same day from Motaquip for Ł27. The fookin Magnecore ones are only Ł100 - where the fook you get Ł200 from.
Plugs are a couple quid each from Ford, you want the slightly later ones with the screw on caps - check them at the service counter as some are shagged, you'll be able to tell straight away.
Check TPS with a multimeter on resistance, clean up all your multiplugs and grease connections, recheck everything again.

Don't discount the lambda sensors, my car was missing on part throttle cruise two weeks ago and one of the lambdas wasn't connected properly.

No not ALL of it, but anything Bosch/Lucas etc will be. And the Halfords pro tool range aint too shabby.

Just have your eyes open I guess.

as mark says

checkd TPS earlier... 0.9v to 4.6v and smoth all the way thru, and those readings are well within accepted limits...

also i left the battery unplugged for a while and then gave the car a learning session afterwards :P

didnt do the plugs earlier... fords+factors were closed n halfrauds didnt hve the right ones

put some new std ford plugs in there (well, 5 of em... lol need to get one of those deepreach sockets from halfrauds tomorrow to get at no4, mine's a gay twisty handled one) which were supposed to be pre-gapped but they all had ZERO gap (ie elctrodes rouching) anyway, sorted that out

car idles a lot nicer, and seems to drive a lot smoother at low throttle openeings/low revs etc.

just gotta swap no4 plug tomorrow to finish the job off

Jim - bloody listen when people tell ya stuff!
Plugs are a couple quid each from Ford, you want the slightly later ones with the screw on caps - check them at the service counter as some are shagged, you'll be able to tell straight away.

Careful with that gay twisty handled socket, very very easy to cross thread the plugs putting them in

i like your thinking

i once got handed a rocker cover gasket that was bent at 3 different angles..

"erm... mate... WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!?!"

i promptly received a nice straight looking gasket

i still remember the day some old lady came into halfords to buy a headgasket that her husband had ordered, and she folded it up n put it in her bag
