removing my 3dr cos engine within the next week is it a big job
am i best stripping inlet and turbo, exhaust manifold ect of first,or is it easier to remove head then block
easiest to remove if you remove head from block complete, and then remove block from gearbox.
of course that way you need to replace head gasket (maybe involving a light skim), and if that can be avoided it's best. but then why are you having the engine out? if it's for rebuild, you'll need to do that anyway.

My favoured method is slightly different again.
I undo the 4 bolts holding the 2 parts of the exhaust manifold together and remove the turbo with the trousers atached. Then I undo the nuts/bolts holding the inlet manifold to the head, and leave the whole plenum assembly complete (you don't have to mess around with any of the fuel system this way). Then remove the engine with the head on in one go.

jon@work removing the turbo like that is also good as it takes a lot of weight off the head if you do remove it. but i like both manifolds to be on for handles.
also, the nuts and bolts for the inlet plenum are not easy, neither is putting on a new inlet manifold gasket in situ.
the fuel system is no big deal. remove the return, and the feed unclips very easily and just has to be cable tied up high.

dont really matter then, when your done its best to install as one unit. much easier to fit things like hoses, oil filters, switches etc on the bench rather than fighting with them when its all back in the car
good luck
good luck
Take it all out in one go...borrow a engine crane if possible or hire one (wont be expensive for one day), as it will make mistakes or accidents less likely. Its a easy job and should only take around a hour to get the engine out complete. One tip tho, remove the bonnet...it'll give you alot more access room and light and also allow the crane to go high enough to let the engine completly clear the slam panel.
as cossie604 said is the way to go
my m8 came and took mine out a couple off weeks ago.
i didnt have a clue how to take it out and was surprised how easy it was to take out.
it took him just over an hour with me doing the spanner passing
i took all the tanks and shiny bits off before he started so nothing got scrachted.
heres a few pics to give you an idea

as you can see its a lot easyer to take everything off when removed from the car

Nah mate...just remove you're bonnet...disconnect battery..remove all ancillarys...remove headlamp and radiator and grill (dont have to but makes damging them less likely) undo your exhaust, remove starter motor and throttle cable and clutch cable...unbolt bell housing...undo the two engine mounting nuts (i prefer to undo the underside nuts) and then hoist it all out complete...easy. I removed my engine last january..during a snow blizzard (I didnt want to beleive the weather man when I started the job..he turned out to be right for a change lol)...stll wasnt a hard job in those conditions.

as for rebuild,i've bought brand new everything,200 block, pistons, valves.
the only thing i'm using off my old engine is head and crank.
still stopping with my stage 3 as it drives bloody loverly like that
had a rolling road day in the summer and it made 345bhp and i am more than happy with that sort of power
it will be back on the road in april.
cheers Ary
PumaBuild make the plates as do a company on flea-bay. Mid 300bhp is a nice figure for road use...not too peaky and still enjoyable to drive with out being on edge all the time imo.
Will look out for it next show season...mine should be done for next yr hopefully
