If I wanted to burn music onto CD-R to play in the car, what should I be doing?
I have an album here, which I received as a .zip file, which, when I unzipped it is each track as an .mp3 file, along with an image of the front and back covers.
I have another album, which has the tracks in .mpc format and also has .m3u and .nfo files in there too.
What is the difference in these formats? If I were to burn both onto a CD, would there be a difference in how these 2 albums played?
Is there an ideal format that I should be looking for??
Thanking you please.

if your headunit plays mp3s then just drop them on a cd.
if it doesn't, then they need to be .wav files, but nero and roxio both convert to wav on the fly so you just create an audio cd, select the mp3 tracks and the software will convert em (uncompress) them to wavs playable on any cd player

My head unit does do .mp3's. I suppose I just need to try a disc and see what happens. What I really want to know is, do I burn them onto the disc in folders? I guess so.
Also, if I have several folders on one disc and some are in .mp3 and some in this .mpc format (which Windows Media Player doesn't appear to recognise), what will happen? Will they all work?

If it does MP3's then you just drop the mp3s onto the cd as is, no need to convert them.
You can put them in folders, or you can just have them all as one.
personally i put them in folders because i put about 8 albums on one cd, and i like to be able to skip to a particular album at any time, which without folders would be harder.
The .mpc files you need to convert to mp3s ideally.
Your mp3 software will do this, stick to 192kbps for sound quality.
the nfo file is just a txt file containing information about the album and who released it etc. the m3u is just a text file containing the track order (playlist), delete both these.
To convert the mpc files to mp3 have a look here:
