Sounds like cylinder 3 is running lean. I've seen a whole CVH exhaust manfold glow red before due to the mixture being set too lean, can't think why just one cylinder should be affected though.

Well it does have twin 40's, so could be a mixture thing!
but why the tapping if it's just running lean/rich??
how long should it be before the followers quieten down with a kent cam? My dad rekons normal ones take seconds to quieten and that you should only leave it idle for the first 20 mins.
But the kent manual says keep it above 2500rpm??
I'm Pickled, could it be a badly seating valve?

Could be an exhaust valve not seating properly or being held open.
Have you put the thin metal spacers below all the rocker pivots? If one is missing then the valve will be being held open.

It must be a valve problem as the other headers dont glow, only this one! Other than that it seems fine.
Cheers Peeps, keep the ideas coming, I want to sort it tomorrow night, so I want to tackle it from all angles!

Are the bits circled red below vacuum ports??

I beleive they are, but I'm not getting a vacuum reading on my gauges. I have the dizzy connected to one, I have the gauges connected to one on each carb, and the final one blocked off.
Anything to do with my problem?
Could it be a mixture thing? I cant find my compression tester to check if the valves are seating properly, I'll have to look harder!
HELP ME!!!

Well, a BIG thanks to
swany6899
off of www.xrtwo.com
The cam needed retarding, 6deg did the trick, and a twist of the dizzy later and I'm back in business.
Found my compression tester and none of them were anywhere near eachother.
Adjusted the timing 1deg at a time, untill they all matched. Tried staring her and nothing, so I tried my luck with the dizzy, a little twist later and all was well in the world!!!!
Cheers guys!
