Polishing an S1
Hi People
Looking to give my s1 a good old polish. There seems to be a lot of debate over products to use eg Megs or Poorboys depending on the colour of the car.
Whats the best stuff to use from start to finish on diamond white?
Cheers
Matt

Neither on Diamond white...
Polish with ClearKote Vanilla Moose Glaze (confusing name admittedly, but it is a polish)
Seal with Poorboy's EX-P
Wax with Optimum Car Wax.
Stay away from heavy carnauba waxes and glazes, they don't suit white cars. The above line up gives a great finish on Diamond White
Give the car a good claying session before you start if you've not done this before.

Yep, the products are fine to use on original paint
You can try removing swirls with a product like SSR1, but ultimately, full swirl removal is achievable by machine and not by hand.
The CK VMG will take off what is on the car already, and if you've not clayed, you should also do this first.
As you'll have time over the winter, clay the car carefully, then polish with the CK VMG. Apply 2-3 coats of EX-P and then several coats of OCW to your liking.

You could try the AG Paint restorer but I'd avoid the T-Cut as it gives those lovely dull patches on the paint once you've used it.
SSR 1 is mild... probably to mild in my opinion. It's fantastic for cleaning away buffer haze and bring up a shine to the paint (could be used after using T-Cut....) but, if you wanted to try aother product to actually remove the swirls by hand (and as Gaz says it's a hell of a job ultimately without a machine), then I'd go with the SSR 2 .... We get the most success with this going by customer feed back, and in our four years, it's by far and away the most popular polish for hand use (closely followed by Prima Swirl), even amonst alot of European car owners (BM's, Golf's etc) which are renowned for having very hard paint.
Hope that helps.

AG Paint Restorer is okay on small patches, but i wouldn't want to tackle large areas with it. I could be wrong but i think it advises against this on the back of the bottle anyway? T-Cut is old and outdated - it's abrasives do not diminish and hence can harm the paint, leaving dull areas as Alex said above.
I've found SSR2 harder to work by hand over an entire vehicle, but it can be used as effectively as SSR1 as Alex said. I've had better results from use on individual panels. Bear in mind though that for swirl removal, you wouldn't usually start with either of these by machine (sticking with Poorboy's, SSR2.5 would be a common starting place), so trying to use them to do it be hand is nigh on impossible...
