Default Cosworth MOT PASSED!!!! update 25th Nov 04

I bought my Moonstone blue sapphire cosworth 2wd G reg `90 as a present to myself about 4years ago I bought the car as a std motor with escos alloys and has since had a diff rebuild, gearbox, and engine rebuild (due to cambelt slipping)

It had just had an engine rebuild when I bought it so thought it would last me years, unknown to me it had an oil leak that rotted the cambelt stripping teeth from it, new exhaust valves and a year later it was back on the road looking a little better than before.

I finally took it off the road again last xmas when the turbo went and decided that 300bhp would be even more fun and have been saving and collecting the parts for the job, 803 injectors, ecu chip, 3bar MAP etc. It seems the weather has got to the shell the last couple of winters so it may be its last couple of years when/if it gets MOT this year, dreaded rust!!
Pics of my car at Rockingham Ford Fair

Realising the brakes wouldnt be upto it I have also uprated them too (still a secret but check my avatar for a sneak peak
My engine bay last week shows i have a bit of work to do before the end of the year

but shows some improvement this week, there are some secret bits still to do but its fair to say i will be happy with a good 300bhp, i think i have specced it sensibly, being on a tight budget this should perform OK on track when i finally sort the chassis

Parts Im waiting on now include:
4x4i/cooler
T34 turbo actuator and damper brackets
Brakes now modified and waiting to be fitted
New alarm/immobiliser

Thanks, yeah I painted the cover, couldnt decide on blue or red, looks tatty now though but it was original way back when it was done and its easily recognisable. The car was built to be used and it rarely gets looked after, its soo rusty and tatty its embaressing

Parts of the GGR 3port breather system finally arrived so I could make up the hoses to fit snugly in the engine bay, hoses were way too tight to slide onto the hose fittings though.
My 4x4 I/cooler is here and ready to fit and also the PHILLOY Strut Brace has been modified and turret brackets fitted. The Inlet manifold was installed with 4x 803green injectors fitted and all water hoses re attached to thermostat, head and tanks etc
Afew parts waiting to be fitted:

Out with the old in with thenew, decent rear rubber for the first time in years ready for the MOT

modifications to front stoppers include Remachined mounting brackets to make the most of the pads as they originally had a 3mm lip of unused material on the outside edge, and the insides of the calipers modded to fit over the 355mm disks and under my 17`s. before and after:

A pic of those brakes now modified and trial fitted, since removed untill rest of car is ready, I think they might just slow me up better than the std brakes!?

Still waiting on T34 brackets for turbo damper...Anybody help?
Final and correct seperator fittings for 3port system from GGR, come on Josh!

The cossie has had a bit more work done, the crap weather and lack of cash and reliable parts suppliers is holding me up now, STILL waiting for a T3/T34 turbo damper mounting bracket so i can bolt this lot together, Porkies old T34 as used at Castle coombe circuit for a lap

I tried fitting the new 4x4 I/cooler to the car, so much for a straight swap, seems my radiator had an extra piece of 90degree angled metal in the way of the sloped mounting brackets, so the hack saw came out to play

Sorted. The engine bay so far, just before the I/cooler was fitted

Also ready to fit:
GpA coil-c/o Yodi
new water hosing to replace soft old shit
some lovely Mobil1 for the next service
new white boot and bonnet ready for a spray to Moonstone blue

wheres the strut brace
The quality strut brace (as supplied by a right good geezer who I met at National day alongside Rod Tarry) is waiting to be fitted as soon as the turbo is on (STILL WAITING ON F#####G BRACKET) and the breather system is in place.
Pics taken today;

GGR swirl pot fitted in the thermostat to rad water pipe. 4x4 cooler and rad refitted and plumbed in, amal valve and vacuum hosing replaced. GGR GpA Dv fitted to blue SFS inlet hose and attached to throttle body.

std coil fitted for now and blue m-sport leads wired up to dizzy and all sensord re-attached. Lots of small jobs that dont look like you did anything all wkend were done. Rear hi spec std size grooved disks cleaned up and R.calipers checked they are free to move still.
Stg3ecu chip has been fitted to the L6 ECU and re installed.

Note the gap still where the turbo SHOULD be
Im still waiting on a couple of bits for breather but PROMISED them for next wkend so it gives me time to save for the alarm. on my meagre wage i need all the cash and time to save that I can get
Next job is fit the turbo when part arrives and when its built and fin the wiring up of alternator/starter motor etc.

Cheers Phil, just wanted that little bit extra, fit great under my 17`s now cheers Thanks for the comments all, this week has been much of a muchness, AGAIN, let down by supplyers, no hoses and fittings for my GGR breather, wrong size threads sent apparently AND still no damper bracket to build my turbo up with, think Im gonna end up changing my turbo for something else if this isn`t sorted by next week!!!!!!!
On top of that i have 2 weeks to get the cossie moved off the drive way now cos it gets resurfaced Oct 6th!! Never rains but it pours eh?! Heads will roll and HUGE discounts/free parts expected VERY F*****G SOON. Cant trust anybody but yourself to sort things, whether its car parts, work mates or bike shops with boots not turning up from Italy AS PROMISED! Pissed off, just got back from my mates funeral today and I dont need this shit, expect the cossie or supplyers heads to be broken if Im still pissed off next week Good evening to you all!

Had a couple of days off work due to nasal infection this week, joy, head aches and dizziness all day and anti biotics to take. So I rested most of the week but got really bored so fitted my KAD 355mm 6pots and my 17"League velocity 099 alloys on Saturday in the pissing rain. I think they look pretty good myself, after the modifications I made earlier all they needed was a 3mm spacer to clear the valves, a good couple of hours work I reckon, hope they slow me up now

I have the final couple of brackets for my turbo turning up early next week and my breather system parts too... heard that one somewhere before, I will gladly name and shame this company if I get the brackets before the phone call for my hose fittings Check out my other post in PARTS FOR SALE as I need to shift some more parts before October to continue this project, including my now knackered 2ltr GHIA sapphire R.I.P.

I wont show a pic of the rear or other side as its been off road half a dozen times and its soooooo rusty now only a Warleydaddy special makeover could save it now I have good and bad news regarding parts for the old girl, good news is that the brackets arrived before i payed for them this week so i can bolt my turbo together this weekend and continue in the engine bay...the bad news is that the turbo brackets arrived before the breather parts this week so as I promised; GGR, thats GRAHAM GOODE RACING from Leicester have failed for yet another week to supply the rest of the breather parts for me, as promised, again. I`m past being angry now, I will just continue to share with others my experiences of trading with them 3months for 6 hose fittings?! To be fair though Josh has tried hard by the sounds of it but to no result.
Thanks for the comments once again; cossiemen, twins, Pete, Paul and all, not long now before its sat sideways on a round about near you soon, hopefully rubber side down.

GGR plain rubber hose and fittings order at GGR has been cancelled and a deal is to be struck on Goodridge Braided hosing instead due to supplyer trouble for the cheaper fittings. ŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁ! Had better be a great deal as i already have a std breather system and half a GGR set laying round that I cant use! Till the new stuff arrives (roll on 2005maybe?) I will replace my std breather trap crap for now.
I built the T34 turbo up this week and fitted it today between rain storms and Speed Sunday on ITV, filled the hole on the exhaust side quite nicely;

The engine bay looks fuller now and there are only a few niggly bits to sort; hoses that dont fit properly, some wiring (still), and a new alarm before the brakes get bled, oil+ filter changed and fueling/Co is checked.

Apart from that, I think its nearly there, good job too cos I only have 7wks to complete it. I want that sideways feeling back now the weather is getting bad

Quick update, Ive not been online for weeks now, busy working 7days a week, taking my motorbike test and passing and generally doing anything but surfing the net. I fitted a new battery and topped up the fluids; power steering, oil mobil1Msport, coolant, brake 5.1 etc and reset the alarm, turned the engine over a couple of times with the dizzy disconnected then connected all sensors and turned it over again... it fired up first time and sat there idling as smooth as ever even having been stood for 11months!!!!! Well impressed
I got my new Thatcham alarm and immobilisers fitted yesterday afternoon and the old one removed, central locking works again too which is great, I cant recommend ICS in Leicester enough for their mobile alarm fitting service, thanks to Mark the installer SPOT ON MATE
All that is left now is to ready the car for the MOT next week, bleed brakes, sort blowing down pipe at turbo and set fueling and Co2 for emissions, the smell of fuel is really strong inside the car soo will have to check set up, and a quick oil change for good measure. Warley daddy and SteveH get your sapphires warmed up cos its nearly time to lose it on a `bout SOOOoooooooooooon

yes yes, pics will include the functional bling strut brace Rs Gus just as soon as it passes the MOT. I took her up the road last nite after changing the oil (Mobil1 Msport) and filling with DOT5 and bleeding the front brakes, I wasnt expecting them to work from cold and was well surprised when they stopped me dead from 30mph in no space at all, not as surprised as about a second later when i was twatted on the back of the head by a door card i had left on the back seat, bloody hurt that did!!!!!!!!
Ive sorted the leaking fuel reg hose and topped up fluids ready for the MOT at 9AM Wed morning, fingers crossed there wont be too much to do cos its hard work servicing and fixing your car in the dark on wet roads in winter, it sucks. Just a note to myself about the new 225mm pirelli tyres I had fitted for better grip on the rear...THEY ARE POO, at only 15psi and smooth throttle application they werent doing the job, may even leave em on for my first drifting session if the understeer aint too bad And Im not really sure of the T34 turbo yet, it came in with a strong push loads harder than my tired old T3 but still feels strong off boost so happy with that too, soo all in all not too bad Im just hoping the MOT tester isnt too severe and I can roll with SteveH in Leicester soon

IT PASSED ITS MOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You beauty Well Impressed, thanks to Craig Lord at Profile motors, Saffron way, Leics. There was just a warning of possible welding work next year on the rear sub frame but apart from that NOTHING, he did say he was going to take it for a spin but darent, ha ha bless. Just waiting on new insurance this week (any recommendations web addresses tel. numbers etc?) then I`m off. Its fair to say that the freshen up is fin, bodywork can wait till I have some cash now in 2020 maybe Just needs the boost setting up and fueling checked. Happy with that so a big thanks to the following;

PORKIE; for the T34 turbo
Phil; for the 355mm KAD 6pots, starter motor, inlet pipe etc
Josh @GGR; for the servicing parts, gaskets, oil etc and putting up with my winging
SteveH; for keeping the Cosworth flame alive for me and letting me drift his
Ian; for the Stg3 ECU chip, works a treat
And everybody else thats helped me so far supplying intercoolers, buying my spares etc, cheers to you all
Next up will be my attempt this year to set it up for drifting so will be visiting ZOO a bit and spending even more ŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁ

But then the modifying never stops right?
