my view is that afr should be measured closer to the engine than the tailpipe (e.g downpipe) unless you have a very sophisticated device.

essentially you are right.

Some are, some aren't. Exhaust probes react far too slowly for proper mapping.

How do you work that out? Do you realise how fast teh gas travels the length of the car? As long as your using a device capable of measuring and displaying oxygen leaks, the tailpipe is a perfectly good place to sample under most conditions. If however a screamer or alternative bypass device is fitted, you need to measure prior to its manifold connection.

They travel quiclky up the exhaust pipe, but the gas analyser reacts quite slowly, and won't show u misses etc? I don't mean a clamp with lambda sensor in the tailpipe btw.

dingy, you never been to a "normal" rolling road then the sun machine is normally there with the CO% reading healthy

Got ya, i thought you were saying sampling from teh tail with a lambda was wrong. Sorry.

Sorry, but the ones I have seen are a bit huge to sit on the passenger seat whilst driving flat out.

Honestly didn't know you could get small ones for live map's.

IMHO RR's can't be used for full map's anyway, and most roads don't come with a 240v power supply

Most use rolling roads, but a few i know use something like this.

I evaluated the one above for the local SUN dealer. The pump was far too small to be of any use IMO.

isn't that essentially just a screamer pipe?

yes I spose, but my question was how do you get a basic setup done on a rolling road if you've got one of these halfway down the exhaust?
I answered your question in my first reply Matt.

I see ATP are now on V3.0 of their valve. I had a V2.0 and it worked for about 170 miles but fair play to ATP they refunded my payment minus a 10% surcharge.
