Default Shocking dizzy cap

My 4x4 saffy has a new grp a coil, cap arm, and leads, when you touch the dizzy cap when the car is running it gives you a cracking shock, enough to make both arms jump!

Is this normall? i have never known it before,

The only other thing i have noticed is that when i look at the rotor arm, its only got a burn mark in one corner, not across the whole face as you would normall expect, Any ideas?

When i set the timming up, i aligned the phase sensor with the lug on the dizzy shaft, the timing is non adjustable anyway, the car runs fine.

I think it's pretty safe to say that what this means is that you shouldn't touch your dizzy cap again when the car is running.

It's not like a dizzy cap costs anything though.

touch it,you know you want to

when you set the timing, there is a notch in the dizzy body, which the contact on the rotor arm points to (when set to TDC )

not sure why it's shocking you but i'd change it, oh and touch it again

i set mine so when its at tdc, the phase sensor under the rotor arm lines up with the second lobe on the dizzy shaft. the rotor timing is non adjustable the ecu adjusts itself.

you should set it so that at tdc with both cam pointers facing each other the pointer on the aux shaft should be pointing at the dot on the cover and the rotor arm should be lined up with the groove in the dizzy body.

if you don't get the rotor arm position right, how's the spark going to jump from it to the correct terminal on the cap to fire the correct cylinder in sequence?

the phase sensor position is related to the rotor arm, so get that right and you're away. there's more chance of the rotor being directly in line with the post in the cap at the right time then, so less liklihood of it jumping elsewhere and giving you a shock

when you say line the rotor arm with the groove in the dizzy body, what groove do you mean? the big one that the plastic flash protector sheild sits into? If you mean that one i tried that and it doesnt even think of starting, so i aligned the phase sensor as before and

see pages 3 and 4 of the manual under this link

http://www.siipicossu.com/manuaaleja...Sierra%20C.pdf

the whole manual can be dowloaded from there, along with loads of others.

a little knowledge can save a lot of money with these bloody cars
