never took the engine out in gear, but its a new engine anyway so that may not have helped
is it any easier to get the gearbox on after its fitted as im temped to get the engine stuff in and then just fit the box or am i causing more issues for me
i even bought a clutch alignment too today and took out the engine and restarted but that done bollox all too
but even if the car is running at central day i got no tunes either now
my just tow the ar to work and take the S60 to sentral day,no fucking hassles then

Ginge have you stabalised/lifted the box with a jack? Remove the rubber engine mounts until you have the box and engine mated! Nothing else i can suggest as they normally just fall on with a bit of a wiggle

have you tried to put the engine in place without the mounts on?
that way you can get a bit more movement out of the engine side to side to slip it all into place
you can put the mounts on afterwards or even get underneath and undo the gearbox mount to wiggle the gearbox into place
and are you doing it all on your own or have you got a few friends to volenteer their services for an afternoon?

Ginge just a thought
Have you checked the spiggot bearing in the end of the crankshaft to make sure it isn't in pieces? Don't fill the hole in the middle with grease either as that won't help!

not read all ya posts mate so not sure if you have actually sorted this or not . . . .
I put and engine is a cossie recently and found that if you put a little scissor jack under the box to raise it slightly, leave the box in gear and spin the flywheel with a leaver bar (whilst wiggling the box in) it will slide right in. . . . .asumming clutch is properly lined up . . .this can easily done by eye though mate
Goodd luck
