It has probably got a blead valve in it,therefore no need for breather .

Do you mean the breather that usually runs from the oil control filter? Or the smaller one from the amal valve?

In theory u shouldn't use bleed valves that vent to atmosphere as that causes a small airleak, just for info

Hes got an oil separator but the hose the goes to the metering unit to the oil separator was blocked off and the a wee filter was in its place, he took the filter off and ran the hose to the metering unit, but the car failed to start after that

Personally i would leave it as is, that way you eliminate the whole engine as a potential air leak, i've just done mine but i've yet to get a filter, straight vent to atmosphere at the moment

I don't like this system anyway too finecky and i think its fuckin shite so roll on that EFI conversion

yeh but we think the filter may be drawing in moisture as the seperator was blocked full of mayo, the engine is still in the running in stage, so we think the seperator wasnt cleaned out on the build

also due to the pipes being blocked we suspect it has back fed through the turbo oil feed and fooked that to as thats started to smoke on over run

so does anyone have any ideas to why it wont run when the breather is connected to the metering head as it should be ??

Can only be an air leak if it won't run then with it connected????? Strange though..........

Is that a common problem with breather filters letting in moisture. To be perfectly honest every CVH ive ever had has had a bit of moisture in the system until its had a good warm up, but only a tiny amount as expected.

no im talking a full seperator tank full of the stuff

as the oil was ok when he droped it, after 800 miles, im presuming the tank wasnt clean out after the new engine build ?

but it still doesnt explain why it wont run when conneted to the meetering head, surly the breather system isnt right somwhere .......

Ah ok i see what you mean.

Well, to be fair as you probably know all the seperators do is allow the oil space to drain back into the sump rather than be forced into the air box. This is why i disconnected mine i had some massive airleaks problems, most of which now im fairly sure was the brake servo, but the whole engine becomes a potential air leak, think of all the connections on the engine and where air could get in......loads.

So when you tried re-connecting it the small breather filter you circled is being removed and a pipe from that to the air box is being run??

Just one other thing, looking at a picture he sent me earlier, it looks like there is a smaller vacuum pipe connected onto the oil seperator, surely thats not right? And i'm also noticing the Dump valve........

not sure mate i looked on the spec r web site and there s1 pic was the same, so im prusming thats right.....

im not sure if he has tried it with the small filter back on, but we are trying to see why its like that as its a new engine and he doesnt want to just get it running ok if you know what i mean

hmm... maybe best to get a new breather system and go from there

Well why don't you clean the seperator out and try it as is again??

One thing u might be able to tell me is do those little filters do much in the way of reducing the smell of the fumes, cos i know when sitting in traffic with the blowers on the smell can get quite strong.
