Need help with my FRST!!!
A couple of weeks ago i purchased a fiesta rs turbo which had a blown gearbox. I replaced it this weekend with a series 2 box so it would give me the benefit of having a LSD. Anyway, heres the problem..
Now i've finally got it on the road i've found out that when it comes on boost and hits 15ish psi it cuts off all power??
I've been told by a mate that this is cos it ain't chipped? Is this correct?
I don't know anything about whats been done to the engine as it only came with FSH, no receipts. It has got a bleed valve which is screwed down as far as it will go which is weird cos its still reaching 15 psi??
Anyone know why its boosting so high and is this correct about the chip? Any suggestions?

hiya mate,firs things first, look under the passenger side dash to see the ecu,you will see a chip plugged into it at the bottom if its chipped,there should also be a bar code/label on the ecu itself with either OFAC or OFAB printed on it,these are 2 different types of managment. hope this helps
the boost isnt determined by the bleed valve,the actuator can also be adjusted to alter the boost pressure. usually you set the actuator to your desired boost pressure and fit the bleed valve to up the boost a few psi should you want to.
Right first job unscrew or remove the bleed valve asap.
Then take the car to the nearest tuner and get them to set the boost back to 8psi.
If it ain't chipped and you are running 15psi theres a chance that the fueling is not matching the boost pressure, this will result in running lean increasing the chances of detination
,
which is a bitch if you just purchased the car as you don't want to have to rebuild it yet

There was a topic running about these bleed valves they are ok aslong as they are set by the tuners when a chip upgrade is fitted and then left alone.

if you dont mind getting dirty its an easy enough job to turn the boost down. but bin the bleed valve first, and then winde the actuator arm out a good few turns and then take it for a drive to see what boost it runs after the adjustment.

i know what u mean about that bastid circlip. my frst was hitting 20psi!!! well according to my boost guage when i brought the car so as soon as i saw it hit that i turned the actuator right down, it peaks at 9 now, but that sodding circlip made a 20 min job into a 3 hour scavenge

the shaft was ground so badly it had two oil seals on it when i was told it was sposed to have one so i got the boost turned down and a new turb waiting to be fitted
Right.. Looked today at the ECU today an there's no chip as expected but looks like its had one at some point in its life.
Also, as far as findin out whether or not its an OFAC or an OFAB ECU, well i can't tell cos there's no barcode!!
Anyone know another way of findin this out?? an does anyone know of any chips to steer clear of as i'm wantin to purchase one??

hmm same problem i had with my fezzy no history didnt know what was done to it apart from the obvious things like it had the t3 conversion, beige injectors but no chip thus overboosting. After learning a lot from these site found out my cars running an OFAB managment.
anyway heres a pic of an OFAC map sensor look in the engine bay on the bulkhead and if it looks like this then ur ecu is an OFAC if not then an OFAB and i doubt that ur running some aftemarket uprated management but if u can get a pic up ppl we'll able to confirm it for you

Jus had a look an its the one in the top pic so its obviously runnin OFAC management.
The bleed valve is now out an its goin to Clive Atthowe in norwich next week to be set up. Will keep u up to date!

no problems matey. Oranoco know what u mean when the cars are in pieces it takes the piss but are a laugh once there up and running
And C241G-RS thats good your taking to get setup but your gonna most likely need a chip unless you wanna run bog standard power and the car hasnt been modified much. And if it has like uprated injectors and turbo etc then your defo gonna need a chip. Theres no point taking it down to get it setup and you need a chip and have to go again when you get one unless Clive can sort you out with one.
Do you know if the cars got any mods and have you spoken to Clive regarding a chip??????

As far as i know everyfin under the bonnet is totally standard. The reason i'm takin it to Clive is for piece of mind really, jus to make sure everyfin is runnin as it should be, to make sure its fuellin right, etc.
Since i took the bleed valve off sat its now runnin 7psi - standard boost so i can only asume that it was buggered an thats why it was peakin so high.. 15psi!!! For now i've decided to keep it runnin 7psi - 133bhp while i save the pennies to spend on a chip an beige injectors.
Well back from Clive's place an heres how it went..
As i said previously, at the moment i jus want to run a standard set up an standard power so was hopin for at least 130bhp with no problems.. it wasn't to be!!
Turns out she's only producin 126 bhp with 149 lb/torque due to an injector stickin at mid range
JUS MY LUCK!!
Anyway, apart from that he said the engine was strong, turbo was good an generally everyfin else is spot on so some good news at least.
In short, next step is new/recon injectors.. buy a car, buy a hobby
