Default Measuring ACTs

Currently running standard intercooler, but will be fitting a Cossie cooler & custom rad when I finish getting the bits required to complete the job in one go.

The bloke I bought my system off said he'd be interested to know how it affected the ACTs as it was a system he designed to fit straight in without having to cut any panels on the S1.

So, basically I need to know what the ACTs are now and check them after the new cooler's fitted.

What's the simpliest/ best way of doing this ?? Is there a small digi gauge (or similar) that I can fit into the car without it looking like a crap bolt-on extra? Ideally I'd fit it into the cubbie-hole tray under the steering wheel as this is somewhere 'out of the way' but can still see it and obviously the dash area is a no-go on cutting, etc

vroooom ptssssh Cheers mate. Will look at those a bit closer when I get time.

Rallyesport Yep. More depth to it, but shorter in height to keep overall capacity. Need 2x 8" fans. Cooler sits above the rad directly behind the front grill where all that lovely cold air is

Just realised I posted this in Escort forum, so gonna copy it to GD as think it's norm Cossie people who like to keep an eye on ACT's and they're more likely to look in GD than here. (Also saves posting it in the 3 Cossie forums )

Here's the system: https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...ht=intercooler

With the standard intercooler I was boosting 14.5 psi and the boost cut kicked in after a couple of laps, meaning the ACT was 65+ This with an ambient temperature of about 15 degrees.

don't know if one of these will work, look exactly the same as the others for only a fiver. there supplied for computers so might run 24v as apposed to 12v but there must be a way round that. if anyone has any ideas then please let me know cos i might have to purchase one for myself at that price

Ask about the update time, it must be each second. Many of those are 5 seconds.

A five second update isn't suitable for ACT gauge. All ACT gauges have 1 second updates, so I would say yes, it must be if you would have some benefit of it.

It dont matter like that, ideally you'd have one that updated every 10ms.

How long do you have full boost for 10 seconds? You will have chaged gears or braked before that time. Thats the reason why you need a quick update. The ACT will change quickly.

With a decent intercooler you shouldn't need an ACT gauge to react that fast. I think the gauges that Mike Rainbird sells take a reading every 10ms but update every second on the display.

Then you often will miss the highest temperature reading. Sounds like bingo too me.

You seldom will be at full boost ten seconds at the time, so when the the gauge takes a measurement, you will often be off bost, rising on boost or at full boost.

Full boost for 10 seconds? How do you work that out?

It takes alot longer than 10 seconds to get to the end of a runway, and alot longer to get round a track.

Why are you splitting hairs anyway, the difference will only be minimal. I'm talking about 0.5° at the very most. If you watch your ACT gauge that much you cannot be paying enough attention to the tarmac.

ACT's is something I very rarely look at.

That was my original point in saying that it doesnt matter if it has a refresh of 5secs as it not something that you sit and stare at.

Yeah, but 5 seconds is a bit too long in my opinion

Your ACT will be at the highest at full boost, therefor you want to get a reading when the boost is at maxium. With a ten second update, you will seldom get a reading at full boost, because you are seldom at full boost for ten seconds. To increase the chance of getting a reading on full boost it's important to have a gauge that updates quickly, like every second. The gauges I know of do this.

lol, this is getting out of control! I know 5 seconds wouldnt be ideal, I was just saying that it doesnt HAVE to be a 1 second refresh, you could live with a 5sec refresh although admittedly a 1sec or even 500ms refresh would be better.
