MMA
Why do MMA matches last so long ?
They have just started doing this in Plymouth and they take ages.
Surely if your hard enough / fit enough / good at fighting enough to want to do MMA, youll be good at it and able to end it ?
Im unsure of the rules but i believe no eye gouging and no groin stuff is allowed, everything else is fine ? So why dont they just neck jab each other, done correctly the fight would be over within the first 3 seconds.
I have correctly had to perform this move before on the street when threatened and it worked perfectly.

Possibly because it's not as easy as that if you're well matched with your opponent, a good opponent will defend equally as good as they will attack, meaning the opportunity to inflict damage isnt always available.

Im going to take a stab in the dark here... shoot me down if im wrong but i think people who practice mixed martial arts are a wee bit better at defending themselves than the guy you done on the street?
What a daft statement.

Fair enough, Is that because people get involved or cctv or police etc etc, not in a controlled environment where each person is of a similar calibre to the other, Suppose we all have our own opinions
Dojj is not an experienced street fighter. The only time he's won is when there was a book signing and he could use the Queue rope to his advantage.
P.S I cannot believe you are still comparing street fights, which is usually two drunks anyway.
Benni.

street fights are short because you have two unconditioned fighters that have no clue what they are doing on, as said already an alcohol fuelled binge.
I think if you tried to execute any kind of punch let alone a 'neck jab' your either going to lose your arm or your face to one of those guys.
If there was an easy option to winning a fight do you not think they would do it?
I can see your view and where your coming from but a bit of common sense surely would let you see its really not that simple or easy.

The main reason is down to tactics, each fighter is usually fluent in at least 4 martial arts and grappling disciplines. Normal street fights are pretty much like boxing and most people dont think of alternative moves etc, its usually tit for tat punches, bottle of bud accross the chops etc. Like boxing, all you have to worry about is getting punched. With MMA, you have to worry about punches, kicks, sweep, grabs, and the worst is beign taken to the mat.
The main tactic is taking control of the fight, not knock them out, thats why a lot of mma competitors will try and get close to the opponent and on most occations take them down to the canvas, once they have control thats when the quick finish happens.
I love watching mma as there is so much involved.
Check this link out, every knock out shows one opponent getting control, once they have control its over in seconds

iv done it and currently do kickboxing.
its a hard thing to do, very tactical. remember u have a rough idea what ur opponent can do so use ur experience to block it.
the time goes far quicker than u realise and its far far tougher than it looks. both from a skill and physically tiring aspect.
im quite fit and would struggle with 3 full on 3min rounds

at training we normally spar 4 3 minute rounds off stand up only and then 4 3 minute rounds in the cage doing everything but mostly end up on the ground and i am well fucked at the end off it
