Just use a cheap pair from www.myprotein.com £3.49 or something? they are good, have a pad at the wrist which is decent.

Otherwise just man up and get on wi it!!

straps are for wimps but seriously there are not many things you genuinely need strap's for in the gym. maybe heavy shrugs or heavy dead lifts .using them will make your grip go rubbish as well

I use the cheap maximuscle ones too and they work just fine for me. You sure you're using them right? Straps are there to aid your grip when lifting heavy heavy weight so are not going to make it simple for you. I only get the straps digging in when holding 180-200kgs on a bar and even then you need to block it out.

I thought straps are the for the likes of competition use etc, where by you use them just so you can lift that extra kg or 2

Not at all. When you look at the physics of it the tendons & muscles that control your hand are far far smaller than those of your back and traps etc. Although they are very powerful they just cannot keep up with other muscles in terms of weight. For example when doing shrugs at your heaviest your grip will not be able to sustain the weight that your traps can move.

I think straps should only be used for shrugs and deadlifts BTW. and then not for warm up sets etc, just for when your at the limit and actually need them.

Nothing wrong with using straps for heavy deadlifts or shrugs imo.

I want to shift as much weight as possible so straps are essential when i've worked up to 210kg+, 120/140kg sets i try not to use the straps for but more than that i struggle to hold onto it.

I made my own out of an old karate belt. They've done the job for a while. I use straps for more exercises than most coz I have really small hands.

Everytime I leave the gym all the skin is cut behind my knuckles and on the palm of my hand, so when I wake up the next day all the skin is hard. Does my head in. Do you guys think much to gloves?

Lots of talk about Chalk on PF lately. People seem to forget that it makes hell of a mess and lots of gyms do not allow its use.

I was doing shrugs last night and it made me think about this thread. My Maximuscle straps are old and solft but a new pair would be firm and rigid like card. You have to break them in like a new pair of leather shoes.

If it helps you Marky_G I can send you my current straps as I have a new pair in the drawer at home. They are a bit threadbare where they go through the loop but have lots of life left in them and are pre-broken in.
