Battery may be completely dead, so it might not even start with a jump. Have you got any ignition lights on?

Have you tried sticking another battery on it though, before you start changing starter motors etc!

I was thinking along the same sort of thing, which is why I asked right at the top weather he had tried bump starting it.

The dash lights you mention and radio means nothing, they need minimal power, the starter needs massive power and so a healthy battery to do so!

Battery would have to be bad if it wont even turn over, usually you get a lot of rapid clicks though from the solenoid in this case, check the connections as said first and also make sure they are not corroded!

Anyway easiest thing is to turn the headlights on and inspect if they are bright, if so then the battery is good, if they are an orange glow or dull then it's bad.

If you bump start it won't tell you much either as again this only needs mininal power for ignition system etc, so you won't know if it's starter or battery.

Martin

Try switching the ignition on then tapping the top of the starter with a bit of wood so the solenoid tries to pull it in.try your interior fans to see if they're spinning as well.

More likely a bad connection but I had this on a mk3 Fez before and it was just a dead starter.

Only a 1/2hr job and say Ł30 for a recon one.
