Default Loud hissing noise from 1995 mk3 fiesta

Hey, was wondering if anyone could help me with my prob. Lately (well, the last 2/3 months) my fiesta has been extremely sluggish and will hardly move. It has no problems whatsoever starting up and ticking over, but there just seems to be no power there. Also, there is a loud and very distinct hissing noise coming from the engine area, maybe the exhuast manifold, not sure?. Well, I was wondering if anyone could suggest what's wrong with my poor little car.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers, Rad

If it was the exhaust the car would be a hell of a lot louder. I would search the whole inlet system as it sounds like you have a leak somewhere

Oh right. I'll take a look at the inlet system. What should I look out for? My mate said it could be something to do with air filter? I dunno. Well the hissing is very loud anyway in normal driving. Sounds like a very loud tyre puncture. But as you said, I'll look at the inlets.

Just work your way from the airfilter all the way along to inlet manifold and try and see if you can hear or feel where the hiss is coming from. As it's a hiss it probably is a small hole so you may not be able to see it with your eyes.

Without actually seeing the car though it's pretty tricky to diagnose exactly what is up

Just a thought but what are the brakes like? If they are a bit wanky it could be the pipe to the brake servo.

And thanks She's one of my babies had her 10 years in June

No, breaks seem fine really.
Oh, and now I definately know there's something wrong with the exhaust. I drove it to home from work (a fair distance) and when I parked up on the drive, I got out and felt the back of the exhaust and it was still freezing cold. There's no emissions getting through to the back box, so there's something wrong.
I'm gonna check the whole exhaust from the manifold to the backbox. But could just the exhaust cause a car to be so sluggish?!

I'd try spraying carb cleaner (or similar) along the inlet components... airfilter, airbox, induction pipe, etc while the engine is running at idle.

If the revs increase at all then u have n airleak (as carb cleaner is denser than air and so ignites better). Also try spraying it aroung the injectors as i once rebuilt a 205 that was leaking through an injector o-ring

Other than an air leak i wudnt know wot else to suggest maybe the hampster under the bonnet has asthma?? (soz m8, only messin )
