check all windows are stamped if the car is said to be original, sills can go easily as can the front pannel and skutle pannel.
also you should really check around all door rubbers and int the boot.

Assume the seller is pulling a fast one and beleive nothing without proof. Pull the rubber seals off the doors and boot appertures and look for rust on the lips. Petrol cap is a notorious spot for rusting as is the inside lip of the bonnet and tailgate. Get under the car and look for rust and poke about. If you can get the car up on ramps all the better. Check engine mounts are good and look for the FRST power buldge where the crossover pipe clouts the bonnet (when mounts are broken / worn).
Rust rust and more rust. There are still plenty of good honest cars and you WILL look at plenty of overpriced crap before you find a good one

check to see if the passenger footwell carpet is dry. if its wet, ill guarentee you there will be rust letting in water from the bulkhead, and from where the front chassis rail join the bulk head.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Check back arches aswell for rust or bad repairs as it can come back easly here. if the car feel wollowy when driving then the shocks or shock mounts could be worn,
Check to see where the cluch disengages and engages, if it bites well but at the bottom of the foot well it could mean the diesengade mechanism or the auto adjuster is defective. if it bites at the bottom again but slips easy then the clutch is on its way out.
Check the headlights for Reg marks aswell to see if it might have had a slight crash, front and back of sills, can rust , around the rear wiper motor is another place and around the rear window rubber for them to rust, bottom of doors where people fill over the drain holes, thinking their rust holes.
Check idle should idle around 800 to 900 if higher they could be hiding something, also check for smoke from exhaust and ask if you can see the car start from cold if it smokes a lot when it first starts the Valve stem seals are gone and the oil is slowly seeping throo and sitting on top the pistons when the engines stopped and it won't stop leaking when the cars running either.
Ask if these stem seals have been replaced already since on a car of this age the orginal ones would be coming to the end of their life and it doen't matter about low millages since its the age and heat that kills them.
Hope this helps and good luck. i know i'll need it when i get my first FRST
