1988. Xr3i mfi bad cold start and misfire
hi guys just bought a xr3i the problem I can't get to the bottom of is when you first start it it will cut out and then start again and so on for 5 mins until walms up and misfires until at normal temperature (I think as temp gauge also doesn't work but changed the sensor?)
im stumped, pulled cold start injector out and that squirts when you turn the key changed plugs and fuel filter. Before I bought it the previous owner said it would boil over but he changed thermostat and has not since. The gauge and fan does not kick in so not sure what temp it's running but it does not boil over now.
Any ideas guys? Cars going into paint next week and hoping to get engine fault sorted to get mot and ready for summer

Hi. I just posted a reply but it did not work.
Try the WUR (Warm up regulator). They regulate fuel pressure during warm up cycle. Disconnect electric plug from cold start valve - not needed in our climate really.
Some K-Jet cars, I think VW, have an adjustable WUR and may well work with the XR. Have a google on them and see if it's failure matches your symptoms.
Maybe try a known working replacement first as fault finding?

Just check the fuel pressure at cold through to hot. Will soon tell you what the WUR is doing. Golf GTI 16v/Capri/many other WURS can be modified to be adjustable as mentioned - always a good mod.

System pressure can be adjusted via shims. The design of the WUR means Control pressure is not adjustable easily - however not impossible! The how-to is fairly long tho - have you confirmed you need to be adjusting pressure yet?

Ignore the WUR adjustment (as thats a 16v Golf WUR - xr3i uses the same WUR as an 8v Golf) but it shows you how to set up the pressure test at least
