basically my cars not been washed much and never polished since about 2010 and lived outside

its been worked on mechanically loads so its matt white and covered in black marks and finger prints

i have a few products on the shelf ive just washed it with tfr and fairy liquid get all the crap off and put some demon shine on as abit of protection


next thinking of mopping using some g3 to cut through the matt and marks/scratches
then megs machine glaze to give it some shine
then megs polymer sealant

will these be enough or should i use something else?

 

Maybe try a clay cloth first before breaking out the machine to shift as much of the contamination bonded to paintwork. If you have these products to hand then give them a go first before splashing out on new compounds etc.

 

I have all the above stuff but I've just read a review on the G3 clay cloth though I might go get one as there only 13 quid

I wondering if the G3 compound is gonna be to heavy I've also seen megs fo a cleaner/polish looks like it could be the answer to my problems lol

Yes the cloth will be worth the money and you can wash it out and use again and again.

Always start with the least aggressive combo first and step it up if you are not achieving the results you require. Best to do several light hits first to see what results you get.

Do you know if the paint is original? I'm guessing it is on your white 3i in your sig? The paint on my sapphire which is original is soft as butter and no way would I go at it with a heavy cut. I had to work it with a DA as I wasnt getting it to finish down very well with the rotary. The panels at the front which have been painted are rock hard and the exact opposite...

 

I'm sure I've mopped it I the past with G3 so guessing that the paint isn't original as u wasn't rental and didn't burn though anything lol

I think I'll have a go with the clay mitt (11.50 on eBay)

I paid twenty squid from my Autosmart rep which is about the going rate - might be a bargain or cheap imitation crap that will fall apart straight away...

Same as the halfords one they were out of stock so went on eBay 11.50 free delivery but 2 week wait still not used it

Not touched it yet mate as it's still living out side and I want to get it in a unit before I go over it

 

TBH marky, I wouldn't use a Glaze on it, its a temp solution to make a car shiny and it will eventually come off after continuous washing....

What I would recommend as I did on my Orion which is in a pretty bad state,

Wash
Clay
Wash
Machine polish with the likes of Menzerna, Gtechniq, Sonus etc
Panel wipe to get rid of any residue
Seal paintwork with something like Fusso wax, Victoria wax, Gtechniq nano sealants

I understand you may need to purchase some of the above bits but the results will speak for themselves...failing that, get a detailer to give it a once over

Not tried the fusso waxes but I understand they fill exceptionally well almost giving the same effect as laying down a glaze. The nano sealants won't fill and if the paint isn't perfect they can really highlight defects.
