Help please what's best to keep a car red instead of the faded pink I usually use meguires tech wax am I right in using that or is there better stuff to use

I find and always recommend...Auto Glym Super Resin Polish followed by Auto Glym Extra Gloss Protection! Always works well on my car....

Very very fine cut and has to be worked in well to make any decent progress with it.
It's a great polish, I use it by DA polisher with a drop or two of parrifin on the pad to help lubcricate it and it makes a great 'quick once over' polish.
The fine cut removed hologramming, the fillers help hide swirls and leaves a perfect base for practually any sealent or wax!

Get a better wax
Meguiars #16 is an awesome wax! Only costs about Ł10 and can last 3-4 months in winter and 6+ in the summer.
What I would do it every 2-4 weeks over the next clouple of months is just give the car a good polish with SRP. Work it in well in thin coats and leave it 10 mins to set before buffing it. As SRP leaves a very fine layer of sealent down anyway you will be protecting the paint but only if you do it regularly.
Keep doing it every few weeks until you get the paint upto the condition you want it. You will be removing the fine oxidised layer bit by bit in very fine layers until you get the perfect glossy red you want.
When you got that perfect red then give it a coat of a good wax.

Then once every 3 months give it a good polish with SRP again and another coat of wax and your set for another 3 months

i used to find the autoglym and meguiars don't work that well together, meguiars seems to go greasey over autoglym.

Also bare in mind Megs tech wax in an all in one product that will remove all the fillers and sealents that SRP leaves behind.

Megs will go greasy over Autoglym if it's damp or humid. Same as any other combination of products.

SRP is a decent enough product if you're doing it by hand, but once the paintwork is looking as good as you want it to, seal it then wax it.

Seal it with Carlack 68 sealant, then wax it with Collinite 476s. A real heavy duty wax.

Couple of coats of each of those and you shouldn't have to touch it again for 12 months, just top it up with a half decent QD.

Get a microfiber applicator pad. SRP will clean the paint no end so you need a microfiber pad just tomake sure you don't do any damage. Also make sure you work it in well! Not much pressure but needs to be worked in will.

I've just got autoglym SRP as pictured and a megs applicator from halfrauds are they microfibre ?
I only ever used to wash it (chamois) it then megs tech wax looking like il be at it all weekend lol thank you so much for all your help

You can get sponge and microfiber ones. White are microfiber and Yellow are sponge
Also you went a few microfiber cloths for buffing up

I use the Meguairs yellow sponge applicators to apply srp and wax etc!

You will know if you have used too much SRP as you will get white dusty residue, if thats the case use less! SRP goes a long way, and a litre bottle will last a long time!

I always finish off as said above with Auto Glym Extra Gloss Protection. This is like a watery substance. You dont rub this into the paint tho, you lay it on in a thin coat in straight lines, leave it on for 30-45 mins depending on outside temperature and direct sunlight...it can be a bugger to get off if left too long in heat, so try to use it in the shade!

You will love the results when these 2 are used together!

It was fairly easy to use aswell came of easily with no swirl marks good stuff will be using it again a few times then a good coat of wax thanks for all the help even treated her to some megs metal cleaner

Give them a wash in something strong, bit of fairy liquid should be fine. Then give them a polish with SRP, should remove the tar Abit of a bodge but it does work

Yellowing and black stains right in the grooves I've only had em a year and there unkerbed so don't really wanna have to get them painted

firstly AG srp has very little cutting ability and youd need a machine to get the best from it so its pointless using it other than a filler.you wont restore faded red paint by using it.you need a dedicated polish,something like menzerna or 3m as your going to need to cut to get the shine back.i really cant tell the difference in the pics other than it looks a less dull red.it has no depth to the paint. you'll struggle to do it by hand and will need a machine polisher to restore.red is the hardest colour to get back to its best. SRP is useful on a car that just needs a quick enhancement detail on a car that has been looked after and wont restore faded paint.
secondly megs tech wax is as durable as suntan lotion.try something like dodo supernatural for summer and coli 476 for winter. supernatural will give you 2-4 months worth and coli will get you right through the winter as its very durable.

I love it when mines all done! Ive been known to spend 4/5 hours on my car but when its done, i stand back and look and i love it! Its only mk6 escort but the looks it gets when its clean is unbelieveable!!

Down where my garages are, theres an old boy that always comments on it when im out there, couple of months back, the car wasn't exactly clean...and he told me i was letting the neighbour hood down

its not faded thats why it worked for you,you cant bring faded paint back by using a filler.you need to cut the top coat to get the gloss back.srp doesnt remove swirls,its fills them.the swirls are still there. ill explain it in lady terms,srp is like make up,it will hide the cracks and make a woman look better,but under the make up theres still bad skin.where as real polishes are like botox,they remove the cracks/lines.
srp gets it results by hand because its a filler,it if was a dedicated polish you could never get enough heat or work it enough to get the abrasives to remove anything more than water marks.its not got the cutting ability.id rather use blackhole than srp as its easier to work with.

Won't it also depend if its a solid colour like the fiesta or a base coat and laquer like the S2's radiant red?? Solid paints fade as it has no laquer to protect whilst radiant red's always fine as it's got the laquer protection!?

If you mean my Series 2, as far as I'm aware it's just basecoat also. I don't think it's laquered and was painted in 2000. Just stored since.

Unfortunately that was the only pic i have of the car before i got to work with it, but i can assure you it was faded! It was pink rather than red...that pic is not good enough quality to show that!

I know what your saying with SRP but in my opinion and from experience...SRP used along side EGP is the best combination for red cars!
