Machine polisher really.
Can try by hand, need a German pad, and something like Autoglym paint renovator, rub for an hour and see what happens.
How bad are they?
Bad may need wet and drying, light may get away with a polish with fillers, like Autoglym super resin polish, heard that hides a lot.

if not to bad get g3 paste only need use your hands because if you have never used a buffing machine or your not 100% sure how to do it because you will be crying you eyes out because it heats up very quickly and in result will take the paint of your car if you use(1)the g3 compound with your hands its good stuff and does a good enough job i use it in my company (with and with out the buffing machine) (2) then get a cutting polish ie t-cut then after that (3)use autoglym Super Resin Polish(4) then use Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine.Try to use a micro fibre cloth for best results and do it in sqaure patches not to big (ie) about half a front wing and bonnet into 6 sqaures take your time!when rubbing in always go in all directions with g3 compound, cut and polish and rub in the more you rub it in the better the jobheres the stuff on ebay on the links below

dont get me wrong it takes time but will have a really good finish but if you can use a buffing machine then do it the steps as i said above with the buffer doing the compound nothing else hope this help you get your car back to looking great let me know how you get on with it

Or use a dual action polisher, save the armache, and have no worry of burning through the paint.
Unless the paint is soft, will be there for weeks.
My paint is very hard (bmw) and even with my megs polishing machine, and Menzerna fast cut it's time consuming, wouldn't even bother doing it by hand, car would rust away before I finished.

That's why I said use a dual action, have to fall asleep whilst using it to burn through the paint.
Rotary is just like an angle grinder, powerful and fixed.
Dual action oscilates, doesn't stay in one spot, this avoiding too much heat, and also stops spinning if you press too hard.
If you want any kind of defect removal you need a machine polisher of one type or another.
Paint on my bmw, anything above the very slightest of clearcoat mark, and I wet and dry it before using, as takes a long time as paint is so hard.
Not aware of Ford paint being particularly hard or soft.
