Or use a dual action polisher, save the armache, and have no worry of burning through the paint.
Unless the paint is soft, will be there for weeks.
My paint is very hard (bmw) and even with my megs polishing machine, and Menzerna fast cut it's time consuming, wouldn't even bother doing it by hand, car would rust away before I finished.
