Default pic save icon

Have just re-installed ME straight over the top of my old one as I was having a few probs, so decided this was my first option to see if it sorted it.
Anyway..it hasn't.

Have found something else tho: when I hover over a pic, I get no "save/email/etc" icon which I used to get before. I've re-installed ME before a while ago & got the save/etc icon back..but now I can't remember what I did.

Anyone help???

you mean a little box appears over the pic with 4 buttons ?

Sounds like the IMAGE TOOLBAR.

Open Internet Explorer, click the TOOLS tab top of the window. Click INTERNET OPTIONS, then the ADVANCED TAB. Scroll down to the MULTIMEDIA section and make sure the ENABLE IMAGE TOOLBAR (REQUIRES RESTART) bit has a tick in it. If it doesn't then tick it, and reboot.

Should work after that. Personally I always turn this off as I don't like the little box. I just right click the pic and that gives me the save/email/print etc options anyway..... I also turn off ENABLE AUTOMATIC PICTURE RESIZING aswell, as thats annoying also...

Weird! Specially since the first one in that list doesn't have anything written next to it!

When you right click on a pic (for example, my signature) do you get this list?

Just to check, but if you've just reinstalled WinME, it won't have IE6 on as a default, will it?

Pretty sure ME had IE5 as a default (although having never used it, I'm not 100% on that). Try downloading the latest version of IE6 from here, install it, and see if you get the option then?

Good point Dan - never thought of that. Check before you download it (HELP at top of window, then click ABOUT INTERNET EXPLORER and it should say which version you have installed)

I remember when I reinstalled Win98 I didn't have the boxes to tick for passive FTP etc, downloaded IE6 and it was fine.

Sorted cheers.

Already had IE6..but during re-install it never auto-updated. Ran IE6 & works spot-on now. Thanx for the help.

Here goes: stick with it if you can....

The comp doesn't always park the hard-drive and shut-down first time. When I try & shut-down, it attempts to park fully (but doesn't: can tell by different noise) then doesn't respond and either locks up & won't do anything, or screen comes up with an error code (which I can't find any info on: normally different code everytime), or goes blue. I then have to reboot it. After it's 'scan' will shut-down first time.

It used to do this a while back..and evenually it stopped 'passing' the scan disk check and used to keep re-starting and failing around the "cancel" button mark (not sure what file/folder it checks at this point).

The reason I re-installed ME in the first place was a check. A friend recommended loading up ME from before to see if it cured the fault (but it didn't) and it hasn't cured it this time.

Earlier in the year I ended up re-formatting the hard-drive after spending hours & loads of discs burning everything I had
It is now doing it again: not parking the drive and shutting down correctly.

Also, if I do a scan-disc normally, it won't pass it & again keeps restarting around the "cancel" mark like it used to.

I've done a ctrl/alt/del look before shutting down & when it's working this is what I have up there:
explorer / msn / zlclient / navapw32 / loadqm / hidserv / qttask / rundl32 / systray

If there are other things on it (norm wuauboot: windows auto update) then I close those first, but it still has the same result: non-shutdown.
It sometimes has an IE fault as when I close IE, lexplore doesn't respond. It's definately the internet fault & not the old virus (L-explore) as I do virus check every week & make sure it's updated.
I can get rid of the "not responding" by re-opening IE and have a quick look around a site, then close it & do a ctrl/alt/del check. Sometimes this fault clears first time, others I have to go into IE again, but it does respond and close eventually. Hence why it's an IE and not virus fault.

It's starting to piss me off again now and am looking into taking everything off and getting a comp whizz from work to install a new hard-drive as mine *may* be fooked. And upgrade memory at the same time.

All help appreciated.

Possible Solution(s):

1. Go into control panel, (Start > Settings > Control Panel)
2. Once in, click the Power Options Icon
3. Make sure the Power Scheme is set to Always On
4. Make sure the Turn Off Monitor and Turn Off Hard disk etc… are set to Never
5. Go into the Advanced tab and change When I Press The Power Button on my Computer to the value Power Off (its probably set to hibernate or something like that)
6. If there iss a Hibernate tab click this, and remove the tick from Enabled Hibernate Support
7. Click on the OK button at the bottom of power options!

That might work, there's another way of enabling / disabling fast shutdown but for the life of me can't remember where it is

Cheers Dan.

I've given it a go. I'll let you know how it goes over the next week when my missus is on here.

aRSe poo.

Had to re-install ME again as the comp wasn't reading the operating system on start-up.

Then Norton wasn't responding: sorted that by switching the whole lot off for a few minutes.

Internet not working: sorted same time as Norton by attempting ot reset by leaving it off for a bit.

Then kept getting 'Zone-Alarm root certificate' problem: which turned out to be my clock settings being for year 2000 instead of 2005

Tried to update Explorer to 6, and it won't finish the set-up now
Says that the files are installed ok, but set-up cannot complete as there is a problem: but doesn't tell me what it is !!!

Grrrr!!!

Dan/Dan or Thrush: HELP !!!
