Here goes: stick with it if you can....
The comp doesn't always park the hard-drive and shut-down first time. When I try & shut-down, it attempts to park fully (but doesn't: can tell by different noise) then doesn't respond and either locks up & won't do anything, or screen comes up with an error code (which I can't find any info on: normally different code everytime), or goes blue. I then have to reboot it. After it's 'scan' will shut-down first time.
It used to do this a while back..and evenually it stopped 'passing' the scan disk check and used to keep re-starting and failing around the "cancel" button mark (not sure what file/folder it checks at this point).
The reason I re-installed ME in the first place was a check. A friend recommended loading up ME from before to see if it cured the fault (but it didn't) and it hasn't cured it this time.
Earlier in the year I ended up re-formatting the hard-drive after spending hours & loads of discs burning everything I had
It is now doing it again: not parking the drive and shutting down correctly.
Also, if I do a scan-disc normally, it won't pass it & again keeps restarting around the "cancel" mark like it used to.
I've done a ctrl/alt/del look before shutting down & when it's working this is what I have up there:
explorer /
msn /
zlclient /
navapw32 /
loadqm /
hidserv /
qttask /
rundl32 /
systray
If there are other things on it (norm wuauboot: windows auto update) then I close those first, but it still has the same result: non-shutdown.
It sometimes has an IE fault as when I close IE, lexplore doesn't respond. It's definately the internet fault & not the old virus (L-explore) as I do virus check every week & make sure it's updated.
I can get rid of the "not responding" by re-opening IE and have a quick look around a site, then close it & do a ctrl/alt/del check. Sometimes this fault clears first time, others I have to go into IE again, but it does respond and close eventually. Hence why it's an IE and not virus fault.
It's starting to piss me off again now and am looking into taking everything off and getting a comp whizz from work to install a new hard-drive as mine *may* be fooked. And upgrade memory at the same time.
All help appreciated.
