Right, so thanks to you guys on here I found some links for DVD Shrink which is a wicked programme!
I can rip DVD's now, compress em and burn em (using Nero)
But! What about non-DVD type films? Ages ago Smit gave me a bit of software called AVIconverter which means I can convert loads of different video files to other types, including DVD file types so I can burn as a DVD film.
Only problem is I can't edit the film to be in "chapters" like on a DVD.
IE: I Just downloaded "The Butterfly Effect" in AVI format. It's one "track" all the way thru, and when converted to the DVD-format it is still one track all the way thru.
So here come the questions;
What can I use to split this up?
And once I have cut the AVI film into say, 20 sections, how do I go about converting it all to DVD format but still keep it all in the correct sequence etc.....
I get a bit lost with this lol.....

Lol, nevermind...... Just realised, if you go into the ADVANCED section of the conversion settings you can select to "mark" (or split) it at certain points (governed in seconds - I set it to mark at every 600 seconds - 10 mins)

they where sent from the states ..so wont work on her player

Rip em and compress em to fit on DVD-R's using that programme, then just copy em to a DVD-R using Nero...... Bout an hour to rip a disc, and about 14/15mins to burn...

How long did it take to "rip" them? I guess you do it the same as me - rip em to a folder on the HDD, then burn the files from that folder to a DVD disc?
Cos I found that ripping DVD's takes about a hour or so, then the burn is only about 15mins per disc - it's just the ripping takes time...
When I rent a DVD out, and it turned out to be a good film worth watching again I used ot copy the DVD onto a video - trouble was the quality always suffered from converting digital video and sound into analogue - and to get round the SCMS data-encryption thingy you hadt to run seperate vieo and audio cables (couldn't use a scart or anything) so generally they were a bit poo.
But it's cool now as I can just rip and burn em off in about the same time it would take to do a full length video "dubbing"

Yeah I stopped using the preview window cos it helped it not take aslong. I dunno bout speed of pc : I got a 2.8 P4 + 1.5gb of RAM.... Seems to be raping the CPU when its doing tho - the mouse goes all slow
they only took 25 mins each disc to burn
and i only pressed one button after that the whole process was
automatic ..i does leave a file on your harddrive ..but when i burnt the
next disk it deleted that and started again
i suppose there would be a option to save it onto hd if you wanted

25mins to RIP or to burn?
Yeah it does leave the files on your HDD as you are ripping the content from the DVD to your HDD, then burning it to a DVD - you can't make direct copies of DVD's cos of the SCMS data-encryption and also cos shop bought DVD's are bigger in filesize than writable discs
