My budget is around £300 but i don't mind buying a reconditioned 2nd hand one off a computer shop etc...

I really only go on a few sites passionford, facebook, ebay and reserch abit on google etc and also want it for itunes aswell so it dosnt have too be anything special

If your just looking for something to surf the web with you'll easily find a new laptop for that price.

The maximum RAM you'll need really is no more than 3gb, with a 160gb hard drive or 320gb if your going to have lots of songs.

Compaq with 4GB RAM and a 500GB hard drive on Windows 7
http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/1164...26ea-15-6.html

Also plenty NEW here under £300
http://search.laptopsdirect.co.uk/la...ounds/page.asp

3GB Ram will be more than enough, but the higher the RAM and faster the processor speed the faster it will work.

I use a Toshiba Satellite with 2GB and 160GB Hard drive and it copes just fine with browsing.

Imo i wouldnt bother buying the pointless 'Add-Ons' they try to sell you like Norton security, theres equally good software out there for free!

My Vaio has been fine (touch wood). My only grumble is the mouse can be too sensitive.
I still use my Dell that is about 8 years old and it works fine. My Uncle bought an Acer and it always seem to over heat and crap itself - he had to buy some gadget that it sits on to try and cool it down.

Hp have a major problem with the graphics chip lifting from the motherboard, Acer is only good if you spend over £500 as the quality improves 100%. All the cheaper laptops will suffer from over heating creating bga problems and then finaly a broken motherboard. The only brand i rarely see in for repair is Dell and when they do come in its threw neglect. For an extra £49 you could get a good deal on a Dell.

I have just had to buy 2 laptops at work.

I would reccomend looking at the HP 630, I paid under £300, for this you get:

Intel I3 processor 2.53 GHZ
2GB RAM
500GB hdd (I think)
Windows 7 Home edition

AMD chips are always cheaper than the equivlant Intel and IME/IMO better, hence you may be trying to figure out why there is a price difference between otherwise equally specced machines.

PLUS at the moment manufacturer are doing deals where you can trade your old laptop in for cash, T&C apply!

Alot of the problems are user error, i.e. using the laptop on the bed etc leading to overheating.

I bet it's one of those 'multi-gesture' ones?

If you want a cheap laptop you could do worse than keep an eye on bigpockets website and see what comes up refurbed as for what you need to do you don't need the latest spec, would easily find one for less than £200

I've always had Dells and Acers, always been spot on. They get dropped off the sofa, my 9 month old even threw up on the keyboard the other day too Just unscrewed the keyboard, washed it off, let it dry and it's fine. And they are generally cheap enough so when they do break just sling them on ebay spares and repairs then buy a new one!
