firstly disable simple file sharing (tools... folder options)

then take ownership of the folders you're interested in (google is your friend)

then you can add security permissions

You need to disable user account control mate. Then you can start doing things with it.

But, every time you switch it on, it's tell you it's about to explode and the angels are crying because you've disabled user account control.... But makes the computer much easier to use...

I bet you only used it for a few hours?
I run on vista as spend most of my time on it at work... its good just needs a bit of getting used to.

And i would not suggest to turn of UAC. it actualy helps you (its borring but good)

No, it's shit. A pop up box asking me for permission to run a program every time I click an Icon is a total, stupid, piss arse, waste of my day....

If I didn't want to run media player, I wouldn't have clicked the 'Media Player' icon would I?

Your 100% right BUT what if a software lets say a spyware tried to open media player would "YOU THE USER" still want it to open???

UAC is used for that reason to ensure that the action was done by a human.
If you run an application which you trust 100% you can set it to "run as admistrator" by right clicking on the .exe and select the option.

Vista is good, the problem is that XP was so good, that people are afriad to change.

That has never happened to me. But I have clicked on things ALOT.. So, I spend 18 months clicking 'yes I want to run the fucking program' just incase something else wants to run the program? Naaaaaaaah.

I'll just stay off the porn sites

And if your to lazy to read here is a recap.

Microsoft tells xp users that they are working on a new OS.
Microsoft asks them to use it.
Users love it.
Microsoft tels them that the "new OS" is actualy vista

rhys, did ur old PC (that u took the drive from) have a password to log in??

If so u will have to put the drive back in ur old PC and turn the password off.

Windows security will not let u access the files on the drive just becuse it has been removed from the original machine.
