Default Asus Eee

anyone got one ?

http://www.eee-900.co.uk/

I like my gadgets and this looks like the next one ! anyone got one ? What ar ethey like ? and flaws in them ?

I'm looking at the 900 which has Win XP installed as opposed to the Linux version. I saw one down ToysRus today and had a play (Linux version) and it looks the danglies.

The idea is to have it in my van and connect it to my phone so I have online access when I need it. Its not going to replace the laptop or the desktop, just gonna be used when I'm away from home really.

Any feedback would be

i've not used one myself but from what i've seen and reviews etc theyre pretty good little bits of kit, as long as you see them as internet on the go then you'll be happy with one, as alot of people try to compare them with laptops and moan about the screen size being to small for films (wtf! why would u want to watch a film on one) as well as the specs not being great (900mhz celron cpu)

the only niggle i've herd from them is due to the small screen size on alot of websites u have to scroll left to right etc, but again small price for mobile net.

Well usual impatient me ! Couldn't wait and am using it as we speak. It is fooking awesome ! Well worth the £330 ! I know you can get a good spec laptop but I already have one of them, the idea is it'll be used in the van and its so compact its untrue !

yea the 900 is awesome, god knows why anyone would want to run xp on it though as it runs like a dog on more powerful systems and the xandros linux option is perfect for it.
Lets face it its not powerful enough to play games on and as such its better to have a system that does not get viruses and spyware running for general net usage imho

you could always go for the cheaper 701 with the linux install. Goes for about £220ish

ive got a black 4gb, wicked little machines, combine it with a pay as you go broadband pack and its awesome, 10 quid gives a months internet, use it for surfing etc not for downloading or videos etc and you wont need a dearer top up

must admit though ive had mine 3 months topped it up 3 times and used it for about an hour

Mac Airs are well over a grand. This little beauty is only a fraction of the price. Its not a machine you can use as your primary computer but well worth it for surfing, email, being bored stuck in traffic jams ! (the looks you get are a picture !), sat on the loo (taking a mag onto the throne is so yesterday !)

I must admit I was tempted by one as I want a lappy to sit in the garden with, or downstairs when I just wanna surf a bit in front of the TV (with this "nice" weather we are having I don't wanna sit upstairs all the time in my PC room) but I can't justify £300 on a new lappy for that - it'll only get used every now and again! Rather by a cheap 2nd hand one for £50-£100....

well my 4gb works superbly with xp on it, i installed it myself, it even tells you how to do it int he asus manual

i paid £199 for my 4gb a few months back

ok hard drive space is crap, but theres almost a couple gb free on that then you just install and run anything else on a memory card so no probs atall

as aboove its a second machine not one to use at home, use it out and about its a very great tool, everyone i have sown it to loves it as its soo small and lightweight

fingers crossed the 901 comes out 1st july @ 330 quid, and on the 5th july i happen to be passing through stansted airport, so hopefully dixons may have some in stock, tax free, so about 280ish

As ill be away with for the week with a new toy, is there any recomended software / programs i could bung on a spare 1GB SD card ive got, so could take that and if i get one, got a few bits to play with!

3 proper questions tho,

1, MSmessenger, does that work on it?
2, anyone linked theres to a windows mobile and used that phone as a hspda modem?
3,will it play MP3s and Avis out of the box?
