Default laptop cloning

i have a laptop from work installed with various software such as lotus notes etc that allows me remote access in to the company server.

is it possible to clone that laptop to make a copy so that i can do exactly the same thing with another laptop?

Use a program such as Norton Ghost to create an image of the machine. Burn it to CD, create a ghost boot disk, run and drop the image down to the new machine.

You need the machines to have pretty much the same hardware else Windows will moan about the HAL's being different and it might not boot.

See here for more info - http://ghost.radified.com/ghost_2.htm

Cheers

Matt

it will make an exact copy of the hard disk - so yes.
the only ball ache with ghost is finding somewhere to put the image as it is created in dos so most usb periphials aren't seen.
a second partition or hdd is the best way but not always possible

in theory yes - but remember the cloned disk will be expecting a laptop as its host. you would have to play about for a while to get it to work but like i say in theory you should be okay!

i have tried to use ghost but without much success .. the older version i got on with no problems did it quite a few times in dos...
i need to upgrade my c drive as its full of stuff now .. but last time i tried windows threw a hissy fit
i dont want to get rid of anything but moving programe files to another drive would create issues in itself i think ..

so is there an easy way to get ghost to copy the contents of one drive and put it on a bigger one ...
or will i end up with the same sized partition on the new drive and a smaller extra partition ???

if its a desktop, then put the new drive in as a slave or whatever. boot ghost to dos then just copy disk > disk. that will do exactly what you want with no partition problems.
