Default Todays PC problem!! LOL

The monitor has started turning itself off randomly and increasingly frequently. It can be resolved by removing the power lead from the back of it and ramming it in HARD!! LOL.

If the monitor goes off, no amount of wiggling the cable around will get it back on, but removing the plug altogether and ramming it in will always bring it back on.

I have concluded that it is the monitor at fault and am fairly happy (well not happy as such) with that. However, there isn't a chance it could be the graphics card, is there? Or something else?

I was away from the PC for a while tonight and it didnt switch off once for the hour or so that I was away, but as soon as I started using it, it went off!! Maybe it was the movement of the desk that was enough?

An old monitor of mine used to do exact same mate....I ended up sticking folded up bits of paper underneath the cable as it entered the monitor to support it

maybe take the case cover off the pc and re-seat the graphics card? Can't hurt. If you can beg/borrow/steal another monitor, that would answer your question

If it looks like your monitors playing up, and messing with the monitor makes it do different things, then its probably the monitor.

Good idea to get a spare though and hook it up and see if it still does it. Check the OSD aswell and see if there are any weird powersave features you can turn off.

Cheers

Matt

Which would be nice, but as far as I can tell, the monitor is out of warranty. It seems that monitors usually come with a 3-year warranty, which we would still be inside, but when you buy a PC package (from Dell, PC World or whoever) they buy the warranty out and put their own 12 month warranty on it.

If I had a spare monitor, come to that a monitor full stop, I would run it round so you could test it.

I'm OK with buying a monitor and have already been on Ebuyer, Dabs, Scan etc etc and found the one I want, but what worries me is getting it then finding I need a graphics card too. I have a monitor at work I could borrow to try, but I completely forgot it tonight!!
