You will need hard drive, case, power supply, memory, dvd drive (s), sound card if you want to upgrade on board sound and a good processor cooler.... that should get you going
Much better to build one in my oppinion because places like PC world put a good processor in them but the rest of the stuff is rubbish
depends what you want the PC to do... obviously if you want to play latest games then you will need decent graphic card , 2gb memory and a nifty processor.
A child could build a PC they are that easy

Something like this would do fine.
Processor http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131950
Ram http://www.ebuyer.com/product/98710
Motherboard http://www.ebuyer.com/product/113965
PSU(do not skimp in this department, must be good quality) http://www.ebuyer.com/product/114941
Hard drive- http://www.ebuyer.com/product/113430
Graphics card- http://www.ebuyer.com/product/120933
Case- http://www.ebuyer.com/product/118268
Think thats everything, now thats a top spec one incase your thinking fcking hell Ł300 for a graphics card it will last you a long time though
Or if you know nothing about pc's it might be worth spending abit extra and getting something prebuilt and delivered to you, because if you get your own parts you still have to find someone to put it together for you, then you will most likely have a part(s) that are faulty and need to be sent back.
Heres one from a website http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/viewPr...&idproduct=117
If you click on "customize" you can spec it to what ive suggested above(well almost)

I really can't get excited about PC cases and internals like some people can I just like things to connect together and work, so I have the following;
Dell Optiplex (tower) PC;
2.8 P4, 1.5gb RAM, 60gb HDD, 2x 17" monitors
Compaq D510 (sff) media PC;
1.8 P4, 128mb RAM ( ), 20gb HDD > plugs into 50" plasma @ 1920x1080
Dell laptop;
1.4 P4M, 128mb RAM, 40gb HDD, wifi to router
And all that connects to a router with 500gb network storage for music and movies, although it's not set up at the mo as I want to expand to about 2TB instead
I just like to get stuff to all work together instead of independantly of each other - share files, share NAS, share internet, share printers, etc etc...

I bought just about everything for my new setup, apart from graphics card. Wanting to go Sli but just waiting for something to come up at the right price.
Im thinking about 2x 8800GTX or 2x 9800GTX or if budget can stretch 2x 9800 GX2
