Default ok .. new problem....

got a bit of a problem .. decision time ...
looking to get another 2 gig of ram so i can waste even more time on bf2 but...
at £85 i am wondering if it's worth putting it towards another motherboard so i can run ddr2 which is alot cheaper
would have to sell the new graphics card so i can get a pci-e one though which again is alot cheaper...

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...?asr-xfire&P=1 £56
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?CSR-VS662G £51
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...html?XFX-76GTF £92
and then use my p4 531 chip untill i can get the cash to get a diff cpu..

just feel i am wasting money keeping an old agp system running now...

yeah your right, keeping the outdated agp pc running would be wasting your money.

Talking about wasting money, first off that card is alot cheaper on Ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/126408
So maybe the other parts will be cheaper too? i havent looked.

I was going to surgest getting a 7900 instead since there around the same price as the xfx7600GT on Novatech, but then i realised the clock speeds on that Fatal1ty card are more than the standard 7900 what with it being pre-overclocked as standard £82 for that is a bargain and it looks alot nicer than the normal 7600's

I checked to see if you were a gold member then

What did Ebuyer withhold from you then? i havent had any issues with them, ive ordered a £80 psu off them and a case for about £70-80, payed the extra and got them next day bang on time/ undamaged

Dont foget theres always scan.com aswell but as you say its if anything goes wrong it would be a pain in the arse getting them to pick the part up, take it away and wait a week for a new part thats only if your unlucky though, if i were you id probably spend the extra on getting it from Novatech knowing that if i had any problems i can take it back and sort it out there and then.

had a major issue with ebuyer... got a mobo and graphics card ... only to find a well documented issue with said products working together.. they woould not do so no matter what.
i phoned em up and got an rma for the graphics... sent it back .. 5 days later it appeared on the doorstep as N/F/F.. so i phoned em and spoke to their technical depatment.. they agreed it was an issue so sent the graphics card back again ... low and behold 5 days later i got it back again ... saying there was no fault found with the card
even though i had an email from them saying there was an issue and the name of the bloke i spoke to in the technical dept because THEY TESTED IT ON THEIR TEST SYSTEM AND IT WORKED it was demed as N/F/F.
so i then get my bank statement through telling me they have deducted the cost of carriage back to myself from my credit card without my authorisation... all i got was shitty snoty emails back ..
so i asked them to supply me with all the details they had under the data protection act .. they flatly refused so i reported them and they got severe bollocking for it i cancelled the card used and tried to get the money back and have never used them since.... i then asked for them to remove all information from their system regarding my account and to stop sending me email crap .. and funnily enough they have not
but for the sake of £19 hmmm is it worth it

novatech swapped that card over straight away though .. so ... hmmmmmmm

oh right thats abit shit certainly made me think twice before using them agian, if its something that cant brake like a pc case etc then thats not so bad, but graphics card etc are more sensitive, then agian i guess its a risk you take with ordering from any pc site that you dont live near

i know others who sing their praises but after my crappy service i would only use em if i was gettin a good deal lol

admittedly ebuyer have had issues in the past with customer service, but i think now thats been sorted as i've kicked up a fuss with them twice now with my last two orders and within half and hour i've had a response and got it sorted.

alot of there fualts lay with city-link as they had massive amounts of damaged stock being returned, but recenlty i've noticed all the packaging comes super packed with airbags and bubblerap now.

but like any online shop, if you lose trust in them then thats it.

word of advice though, if your getting a mbourd thats runs a 24 pin power supply make sure you psu supports it. i tried to get away with running a 20 and it didnt work

oh and with ram, try and go with kingston if you can always ran kingston and never had an issue with it plus there cheap and they all come with a lifetime garantee so you can't beat that

does it have 2 4pin plugs? as u'll need 20+4pin for the mainbourd and a 4pin for the cpu.

depending on what kind of card you get whether you need a pci power plug or not, i'm not two up on graphic cards but all i know is its best to be safe then sorry

if you get the XFX 7600GT pci-e then it shouldnt need a seperate power connecter, its only 7800 and above

i have both now

amd and intel

i would go for intel now, dual core!(for gaming)
gives a little more heat out, but far faster than amd in the same class

amd is cheaper, but with the new cpu they are makng, i belive you have to upgrade your motherboard again

as intel just gone be on the 755 chipset for a while!

abit bourds are great for overclocking.

be careful though when looking at gpu's and cpu's cos some of them are designed to work with vista only, like with the 64bit cpu's and the direct x 10 gpu's

although i'm sure you can get away with running a 64bit cpu on xp but it wont be getting the best out of it.

hhmmmmm

decisions decisions ... cant understand why there is soo much choice anyway.... 10 different models all around the same price .. but with bits added or taken away ..
ok .. want to build a system ..
pref
2 x ide sockets
pci-e x 16
8gb ram
on board sound..
core 2 but also needs to run normal p4 531 chip for now...
NOT micro atx
i wont be spending loads on a graphics card £100 max
anyone got any offers of motherboards for around £65
cos i am getting bored with finding good mobo's then reading the downsides of em

Go for something like http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=117733

Its a decent brand, at the end of the day you will have people ranting and raving about how good something is then there will ALWAYS be one or two who say yeah this is a pile of crap blah blah blah, i just think you have to pick a good brand name and just go for it and hope it works ok.
The above board ticks all your boxe's as far as i can see

Graphics card you could get something like this http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/125936/rb/0
Good for gaming

667MHz PC2-5400 would do fine mate, no need for 800mhz DDR2 unless your a hardcore gamer who wants top notch performance(not to say the 667mhz wont be any good)

i've bought this recenlty

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/124972

seems to match all the things you want and they do make a scaled down version which is £100, which doesnt come with wifi and as many extra sata ports but if your thinking of going duel gpu then i'd recomend spending the extra and getting the wifi pack.

i'm reserving judgement as to how good it is as i'm still rebuilding my system but the bourd seems really well put together and have been impressed with its features.

though i will have to mention its is now stuck in my tower so i fookin hope it doesnt break!

i've bought this recenlty

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/124972

seems to match all the things you want and they do make a scaled down version which is £100, which doesnt come with wifi and as many extra sata ports but if your thinking of going duel gpu then i'd recomend spending the extra and getting the wifi pack.

i'm reserving judgement as to how good it is as i'm still rebuilding my system but the bourd seems really well put together and have been impressed with its features.

though i will have to mention its is now stuck in my tower so i fookin hope it doesnt break!
Can i ask why? its a standard ATX size so unless your case is tiny then its never going to get stuck

p.s check pms
