Default belkin router help:)

Hey hope you can all help me again
basically got a new laptop and its wireless enabled.
originally set up my router with an older laptop and i acessed the router via a utility program.
Now that laptop is gone .. and the new one dos not have this utility.i did have my security wep number written down on a bit of paper as i used it to set up this laptop

I've lost it and i need the code for another laptop and i have no idea how to access the router now to get the code.

I know last time i acessed the router via the net using an ip number?? to acess the router directly..

Open internet explorer and go to http://192.168.1.1 and it should open the router, chances are the username is admin, and the password will either be password or admin.

There you can go to the wireless section, and find your wep encryption key

but yo may wel have to plug your laptop in with a network lead if you have no WEP key ! Once you have the key and sorted the lappy then you wont need the cable anymore !

plug a computer into the router and type 192.168.2.1 into explorer (you cannot do this wirelessly as you cannot access the router because of the wep security that you have no key for !)

. You will then be prompted for a username and password, they are usually admin and admin or admin and password. unless you changed these when you originally setup your router ! then your on your own here as I wouldnt have a clue what you named them !

you should now be in the admin settings of your router. no goto the wireless ecurity settings and you see your wep key and which key it is (Im sure you get a choice of 4, one of these will be selected as your wepkey).

Once you have the key then enter it into the wep key field in the wireless section under the control panel !

fingers crossed job done !

If that doesn't work, there may be a way of setting the router back to all factory defaults ?

a quick google search found this :

Turn your router upside down or look on the rear for a small pinhole. It should be labeled "RESET." With the router turned on, unbend a paperclip and insert it into the hole. You will feel a small button inside, which you'll want to press with the tip of the clip. Hold the button down for 10 seconds, or until the lights on the front of the router stop blinking. The router will reboot within about a minute and be ready for configuring from its virgin state.

let us know how you get on
