Might be time to go PCI express. Get your wallet out
Failing that I'm not sure. There's a few to go at here

A few to choose from here:
256MB XFX nVidia 6800XT (8 pipes, 350/1000) = (link)
512MB XFX nVidia 7600GS (12 pipes, 400/533) = (link)
I've never used ATI cards (I prefer nVidia, as above), but this is in the price-range you wanted if you'd prefer to stick with ATI:
512MB Sapphire Radeon X1600Pro (12 pipes, 500/800) = (link)

Mate, if your motherboard has AGP slots then thats all it will take, end of. Unless you get a whole new motherboard with pci express slots.
As for the card id go for the nvidia, i used to have a 256mb ati radoen x1300pro and i swapped it for an nvidia geforce 7600GT and its miles better even though its still 256mb
Heres some in-game screen shot from my pc

Between the two 512MB cards, I'd go for the nVidia, but again, that's down to my personal preference between ATI and nVidia cards...
ATI have come a long way since I last used one of their cards (a Rage, many years ago), back then their drivers were abysmal. But, it was a lasting impression, and I've used nVidia cards ever since.
